Mercedes Moné suffered an injury at NJPW Resurgence, and a new report offers an update on her status.

At NJPW Resurgence, Moné faced Willow Nightingale in the finals of a one-night tournament for the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship. At the end of the match, Moné suffered an apparent injury, but she finished the bout. Nightingale won the match, and Moné was carried to the back. NJPW subsequently confirmed that Moné suffered an injury at the show, but no further details were provided.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that Moné was slated to win the title, but Mercedes called for the end of the match and the altered finish when she realized she was hurt. Per Sapp, the NJPW STRING Women’s Championship was created with Moné in mind, but her injury clearly changed the plans.

Sapp wrote that NJPW is under the impression that Moné suffered a severe sprain, though sources close to Mercedes believe there’s a fear of a break. Due to the swelling, it was difficult to assess her injury, and the hope is that there will be a better idea of the situation when the swelling decreases. As of this writing, there’s no word on any imminent plans for her in-ring return due to the injury.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
