Report: Larry Fitzgerald nearing one-year contract extension with Cardinals

Larry Fitzgerald will apparently be an Arizona Cardinal for at least one more season. According to multiple reports and first reported by Pro Football Talk, the 34-year-old wide receiver is nearing a one-year contract extension with the club that drafted him third overall in 2004.

And what a magnificent career it has been, made even rarer by the fact he has played with only one organization.

Fitz – who helped guide the Cardinals to their only Super Bowl appearance in franchise history – is less than 1,000 receiving yards away from passing Terrell Owens for second all time on the NFL list and his 1,185 catches trail only Jerry Rice and Tony Gonzalez.

He has also amassed a remarkable 107 touchdown catches, which slots him eighth in league history. Better yet, Fitzgerald, a surefire future first ballot Hall of Famer, is hardly showing signs of slowing down. He already has 60 catches for 677 yards and three scores this season, and he’s done some of that without his starting quarterback, the injured Carson Palmer.

Speaking of Palmer, don’t dismiss the significant bond between him and Fitzgerald, who said in 2016: “A lot of it’s tied to Carson – Carson’s playing at a high level. I don’t want to go through any other quarterback situations.”

Fitzgerald will get his wish, as both he and the 37-year-old Palmer will be signed through the 2018 season.
