Report: Lakers turn down free agent Jamil Wilson after he's accused of knowingly giving woman herpes

The Los Angeles Lakers were reportedly ready to sign free agent Jamil Wilson, who had recently been cut by the Clippers, to a 10-day contract.

But a TMZ report on Wednesday has reportedly changed their plans.

A woman has accused Wilson of sexual battery and fraud in a lawsuit filed in L.A. County Superior Court, claiming that, while in a relationship, Wilson infected her with herpes, TMZ reports. She accuses Wilson of having consensual unprotected sex with her while knowing that he carried the virus without informing her, according to the report.

Wilson’s agent Steve McCaskill, who spoke with ESPN, is prepared to mount a legal fight to protect his client.

“Jamil has been irreparably harmed by the recent accusation, which has now resulted in damage to his NBA career. We will not tolerate these false accusations, but will pursue all legal remedies with the full force of the law.”

The 27-year-old Wilson averaged 7 points and 2.1 rebounds over 15 games with the Clippers, including a 42.9 success rate from the three-point line. He has no previous NBA experience. He played college basketball at Oregon and Marquette.
