Report: There’s ‘a good chance’ that Sean Mannion returns to the Vikings

For the past two seasons, Sean Mannion has been the Vikings’ backup quarterback. Last offseason, the team elected to re-sign Mannion. Now that he is a free agent in 2021, it seems more than possible that the team will re-sign him again.

As reported by Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press, there remains a good chance that the team will bring Mannion back.

Mannion would presumably be the backup if he were to return to Minnesota, though there is a chance that someone like Nate Stanley or Jake Browning takes his spot.

The Vikings could also go and land someone outside the organization, but the team’s cap situation isn’t the best. With punter Britton Colquitt restructuring, Minnesota gave itself around $10 million in cap space. Most of that money would have to be allocated to draft picks and undrafted free agents, which doesn’t give the Vikings a ton of options for a backup quarterback.
