The Vegas Golden Knights have acquired forward Mattias Janmark and a 2022 fifth-round pick from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a 2021 second-round and 2022 third-round pick, as first reported by TSN's Darren Dreger.

Janmark provides additional scoring punch for the Golden Knights, having recorded 10 goals and 19 points in 41 games with the Blackhawks in 2021. This is a bit deceiving, however, as Janmark's production has tailed off with just one assist in his past 10 games.

The 28-year-old is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, although after trading a second-round pick for him, it seems likely the Golden Knights will try to retain him before he hits the market this summer.

Janmark's underlying numbers, frankly, are terrible this year, but he is defensively responsible and could perhaps use the change of scenery. One can assume he'll fit in nicely alongside Alex Tuch and Keegan Kolesar, bumping Tomas Nosek further down the lineup.

Vegas has next to no cap space and will need to use the San Jose Sharks to take on salary in order to facilitate the trade, The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun reports

It's a solid, if somewhat underwhelming move by a leading Cup contender, but the Golden Knights did what it could with limited cap space and can now look ahead to their pursuit of making their second Stanley Cup final appearance.
