For Rent: Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt’s New York City Penthouse

A crisply tailored and comfortably luxurious penthouse atop a distinguished, pre-war landmark building designed by illustrious architect Rosario Candela on an historic, leafy block of Manhattan’s Upper West Side, co-owned by former couple Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt, has come available for rent at $14,995 per month. The erstwhile couple — they announced their split in the fall of 2015 after 18 years together — purchased the approximately 1,000-square foot, two-bedroom and two-bathroom penthouse in June 2013 for $2.45 million. Since then, as was first noted by the property gossips at 6sqft, the penthouse has undergone an extensive renovation that included the installation of all new wide-plank hardwood floors, an enlargement of the kitchen and a careful restoration of the penthouse’s original, steel-trimmed casement windows and French doors. Wide, pointed archways were added between the kitchen and living room as well as between the living room and dining room, both bathrooms were redone with marble tile work and an integrated sound system was added with built-in speakers in every room.

The penthouse benefits from a semi-private landing and an open plan layout that includes a living room with wood-burning fireplace accented with sky blue tiles and surmounted by a television, a window-lined dining space that easily seats ten under a pitched roof pierced by a couple of skylights fitted with electronic sun shades and a windowed kitchen expensively fitted with high-end appliances and a rustic-luxe mix of slab marble and butcher block counter tops on snow-white cabinetry. Leaded glass pocket doors accent the entry to the guest bedroom/den with a full wall of floor-to-ceiling built-ins while the sun-splashed master suite features windows on three walls, one of them with a cushioned built-in window seat flanked by storage cabinets, plus a walk-in closet, a small en suite bathroom and direct access through steel-trimmed French doors to one of the penthouse’s two lushly planted terraces.

Hamm, who’s post “Mad Men” projects include the upcoming feature films “Nostalgia” and “Beirut,” and Westfeldt, best known for writing and starring in the indie rom-coms “Kissing Jessica Stein” and “Friends with Kids,” previously shared a Mediterranean villa in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles they acquired together in December 2002 for $900,000 and, per property records, continue to co-own. Earlier this year Hamm splashed out $3.375 million for a bachelor pad, an organic-modern residence with four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms that backs up to Griffith Park in the affluent foothills of Los Feliz.
