Renee Zellweger Stuns in High-Slit Dress for Rare Appearance at the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Renee Zellweger made a very glamorous red carpet appearance at the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

The Academy Award winning actress, 49, had a major style moment at the annual Oscars viewing soirée, wearing a form-fitting black midi dress with a square neckline, puffed sleeves and a sexy thigh-high slit up one side.

Zellweger looked fresh-faced with natural, dewy makeup and wore her hair pulled back in a low-hanging, loose chignon. She completed her A-list look with a massive emerald and diamond cocktail ring by David Webb and crystal-embellished ankle-strap pumps.

Though Zellweger famously took a six-year break from the business in 2010 after over a decade of making multiple movies each year, the star made her grand return in 2016 for Bridget Jones’s Baby, revisiting the beloved character that made her a household name.

Since then, Zellweger’s major appearances have been sporadic, but when she does hit the red carpet, her stunning ensembles never disappoint.

Her last big red carpet was the premiere of her new movie Same Kind of Different as Me in October 2018, where the star brightened up the red carpet in a fitted canary yellow Carolina Herrera dress.

Zellweger opened up to PEOPLE’s editor-in-chief Jess Cagle in 2016 about why she decided to take a break from acting. She realized that she had become unhappy with her life after making her career the priority.

“I can’t remember if there was one defining moment. I don’t think so. I think I was just taking inventory of my life,” she recalled. “Everything was about going from one professional obligation to the next. And that’s what I call them now, when they should have been exciting opportunities, creative opportunities or life adventures. Like laughing, driving to Sony, because Tom Cruise is there.”

But now, Zellweger has jumped back into the business in full-force.She has already filmed five movies since 2016 — including a Judy Garland biopic that has her unrecognizable as the iconic star. The biopic by Pathé and Calamity Films will follow Garland’s final sold-out concerts in London in 1968, despite her exhaustion and deteriorating health. The movie, based on a script written by The Crown‘s Tom Edge, will also focus on Garland’s management problems and her various relationships, Variety previously reported.

The 91st Academy Awards are broadcasting live from Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT on ABC.
