Renée Zellweger might be back on the Hollywood scene with a project we definitely didn’t have on our 2024 Bingo card. She’s reportedly reprising her role in a beloved franchise that helped cement her status in the entertainment industry early on in her career.

The two-time Oscar winner is back as Bridget Jones, according to the Daily Mail. This would be the fourth installment of the movie series, based on the books by Helen Fielding. Pre-production is apparently underway as the media outlet is reporting that the first day on set is May 23 in London. This time around, Bridget will be navigating single motherhood while juggling her duties at home and learning how to date in the age of technology. The film will be based on Fielding’s 2013 book, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.

The 2016 film, Bridget Jones’ Baby, had Bridget marrying Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), who was the father of her baby. It sounds like over the last eight years things have certainly changed! For those wondering about cameos from Firth, and Hugh Grant, who played Daniel Cleaver, the Daily Mail confirmed that they will appear in the film, although it doesn’t say how large their role will be. We loved the romantic love triangle in the first installment, so there has to be a way to bring them all back onscreen together. Think of the 2024 rivalry storylines they could play out now — swiping left on each other or just giving one of the men the full-on ghosting treatment.

Sources are also dishing about the production which seemed to hit a few snags before it got the official green light. “There was some uncertainty about whether it would get off the ground, but the movie is coming,” they shared. “Renee is excited about bringing Bridget back. She adores the character so much. Bridget Jones fever is expected to sweep across London this spring.”

Zellweger’s team is already looking for accommodations for her and boyfriend Ant Anstead, who will be able to spend some time in his home country. The outlet reported that they are looking for a bigger home than the Kensington flat she had last time around to likely accommodate his three children from prior relationships.
