Remembering Mary Tyler Moore as an Animal Lover

TV legend Mary Tyler Moore was a big animal lover. As a longtime advocate for animal rights, she supported charities like the ASPCA.

In 1999, she co-founded Broadway Barks with actress Bernadette Peters. The two launched the annual charity event in New York City. Its goal is to promote adoption of shelter animals in the city.

Moore also worked with Farm Sanctuary to protect farm animals from inhumane treatment. She said, “I love them all! Even those animals for whom I have no particular feeling like snakes or alligators or any of the creepy crawly fellows.”

Then there was this time she appeared on an episode of Ellen DeGeneres’s sitcom, Ellen. Her storyline revolved around her saving a lobster from being eaten.

In an interview, Moore said, “I would like to be remembered as somebody who made a difference in the lives of animals.”
