Region seeds finalized for town ball postseason

The first step of the postseason is done for amateur baseball teams and a handful of area teams are headed into the second step of the postseason with regions.

Here's a breakdown of the matchups after league playoffs.

Kimball 3, Cold Spring 1

The No. 1 seed Kimball Express used pitching and defense to keep No. 2 seed Cold Spring off the scoreboard most of the game. Kimball came out with the 3-1 victory to claim the No. 1 seed in the Central Valley North.

Cold Spring received the No. 2 seed with the loss as Calvin Kalthoff led the offense with a solo home run along with solid pitching from a handful of players.

The teams will head to the Region 11C Tournament next weekend to take on teams from the Sauk Valley League. Cold Spring will play Monticello in the opening round, while Kimball plays Becker.

Luxemburg 3, Watkins 2

Luxemburg came into the Central Valley South championship game as the No. 1 seed and earned a 3-2 win over No. 2 seed Watkins.

The Brewers earned the No. 1 seed for the Central Valley South in the Region 15C Tournament. Watkins received the No. 2 seed for regions.

Luxemburg will play Lake Henry and Watkins will play Richmond.

Lake Henry 4, St. Augusta 3

Everything was on the line for this matchup Sunday and it was a tight game between Lake Henry and St. Augusta, but the Lakers came out with a 4-3 win.

Shane Kampsen hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning, while Grant Ludwig threw seven big innings. Carter Wessel closed out the game on the mound. Lake Henry will play Luxemburg in the Region 15C Tournament starting this weekend.

Sartell Muskies 4, Clearwater 2

The No. 2 seed Sartell Muskies battled through some games to eventually win 4-2 on Saturday against Clearwater (No. 2 East) in the Sauk Valley League championship.

John Schumer went eight and one-thirds innings to earn the win and keep the run production low for Clearwater. Adam Wenker closed out the game with a double play.

Sartell earned the No. 1 seed for the Sauk Valley regions and Clearwater will be the No. 2 seed in the Region 11C Tournament. The Muskies will be up against the winner of Sartell Stone Poneys or Pearl Lake and Clearwater will play St. Joseph.

Monticello 8, St. Joseph 3

The No. 1 seeds played against each other in the third-place game on Saturday to determine seeds for the Region 11C Tournament. Monticello came out with the 8-3 win after the offense started to click for the Polecats.

Monticello will be the No. 3 seed for Sauk Valley at regions and St. Joseph will be the No. 4 seed. The Polecats will play Cold Spring, while the Joes play Clearwater in the opening rounds.

Becker 5, Sartell Stone Poneys 2

Becker and Sartell Stone Poneys were fighting to earn a spot in the quarterfinals at the Region 11C Tournament. The winner would be safe in the quarterfinals, while the loser would have a play-in game for regions.

The Bandits came out on top with a 5-2 win over Sartell to earn the No. 5 seed in the Sauk Valley League. Becker will play Kimball in the opening round, while Sartell will need to win against Pearl Lake in the play-in game to face off against the Sartell Muskies.

Nisswa 7, Pierz Lakers 4

The championship for the Victory League North/East was settled Saturday as No. 1 seed Nisswa won 7-4 over No. 3 seed Pierz Lakers. Nisswa will earn the No. 1 seed for Victory North/East and Pierz has the No. 2 seed for the Region 8C Tournament. The Lightning will play Randall in the opening round, while the Lakers play Freeport.

Foley 5, Fort Ripley 0

No. 4 seed Foley was able to shut out and earn the 5-0 upset over No. 2 seed Fort Ripley on Saturday to punch a ticket into the region tournament.

Ryan Chmielewski threw eight shutout innings with 10 strikeouts to keep Fort Ripley off the board. Josiah Petersen and Drew Beier each had three hits to contribute runs for the Lumberjacks.

Buckman 8, Pierz Brewers 4

No. 5 seed Buckman punched its ticket to regions as well with an 8-4 win over No. 6 Pierz Brewers on Saturday. Matt Tautges threw a complete game on the mound as he showed command with his pitches.

Jack Suska and Andrew Rueckert each had home runs in the game to add some needed runs for the Goats in the game.

Foley 5, Buckman 2

Foley and Buckman played for seed positioning in the third-place game at the Victory League North/East tournament. The Lumberjacks came out with the 5-2 win over the Goats to claim the No. 3 seed for this league in the Region 8C Tournament.

Foley's Hunter Hamers pitched eight innings giving up two runs and three strikeouts. Alex Foss and Joe Ziwicki each had two hits to help Foley earn the win.

The Lumberjacks will be the No. 3 seed and play St. Stephen in the opening round, while Buckman will be the No. 4 seed and play Avon in the first round.

Avon 10, St. Stephen 3

The No. 1 seed Avon Lakers earned a 10-3 win over No. 2 seed St. Stephen on Saturday to win the Victory League South/West championship.

Carter Holthaus, Elian Mezquita, Ryan Janzen and Carter Philippi each had two hits for the Lakers and 12 as a whole team.

Avon will go into the Region 8C Tournament as the No. 1 seed in the league and play Buckman in the opening round, while St. Stephen has the No. 2 seed and will play Foley.

Freeport 2, Upsala 1

The No. 3 seed Freeport clinched a spot in the Region 8C Tournament after winning a close 2-1 game against No. 4 Upsala on Saturday.

Randall 11, St. Wendel 3

The No. 6 seed Randall punched its spot into the Region 8C Tournament after winning 11-3 over No. 5 St. Wendel on Saturday.

Freeport 11, Randall 1

Freeport had a strong performance Sunday to win 11-1 against Randall in the third-place game for the Victory League South/West bracket.

Mitch Reller threw a complete game for Freeport allowing four hits and striking out five. Bryan Benson, Nate Mettenburg and Brady Pesta each had two RBI's, while Trevor Sawyer, Brandon Sawyer and Matt Johnson each had an RBI in the game.

Freeport earned the No. 3 seed in the league and will play Pierz in the opening round, while Randall gets the No. 4 seed and plays Nisswa in the first round.
