The renovation includes a new HVAC system to ensure the health of her friend Vonda's daughter, who is recovering from sickle cell anemia

Regina Hall isn’t afraid of getting her hands dirty when it's to help out a good friend.

On this week’s episode of Celebrity IOU, the actress, 53, teams up with Drew and Jonathan Scott to transform her longtime friend’s home. “Vonda’s been with me through the loss of my mom, the loss of my dog, breakups,” Hall says about her friend of 15 years in the season 7 episode.

PEOPLE got an exclusive first look at the episode, which airs on Jan. 8, where Hall begins the demolition process to curate Vonda’s dream kitchen. In the clip, Hall takes the hammer into her own hands to kickstart the process.

“Regina wants this to be perfect for Vonda and the kids,” Jonathan says. “She’s going to do whatever it takes — no matter how uncomfortable she is — to pull it off.”

The comedian also opened up to the Scott brothers about meeting Vonda on the set of Real Husbands of Hollywood, where Vonda was the head of the makeup department. Once their friendship deepened, Hall said she began to see how many responsibilities Vonda had as a single mom to her two children.

“Sabah [Vonda’s daughter] has sickle cell, and Vonda’s a really big advocate for finding a cure and sickle cell awareness,” Hall explains. “I think that is what’s so beautiful about Vonda — that is her nature. She is a giver. Yes, she's going to give to her children because that’s who she is, but she also gives to everyone whose life she touches.”

When surprised at her home, Vonda said she had been hoping to find the time and money to renovate her kitchen, but when her daughter needed a bone marrow transplant, she was the first to step up.

“We did it as a family,” Vonda explained. “She shaved her head, I shaved mine. My son shaved his. And I can say with the sickle cell and the bone marrow, it was successful. She’s sickle cell free.”

She went on to add that her daughter is still suffering from a weak immune system, and she was afraid her 30-year-old HVAC system was going to cause her daughter to get sick. What Vonda didn’t know was Hall and the Scott brothers — who dubbed themselves the “Demo Divas” in the episode — planned on replacing the HVAC and expanding the makeover into the family and dining areas.

“She gives to everyone else constantly,” Hall said of her friend. “She’s always sacrificing so much that she never fully takes care of Vonda.”

The exclusive first look proves the trio had no trouble having a little fun during the construction of Vonda’s improved home. When Hall showed up to the first day in a white jumpsuit, the brothers were quick to crack a joke.

“You came to the dirtiest day, the demolition day, wearing white,” Jonathan says.

“I wanted to be helpful and cute,” she jokes to the Property Brothers, both 45, as they help her demolish the old wood paneling.

As she aimed at the block of wood, it wouldn't come off the wall until Drew and Jonathan stepped in to help. Hall then laughs that she "didn't know my strength was so little," but added that she helped loosen it up for the brothers to finish.

Celebrity IOU airs on HGTV every Monday at 8 p.m. ET.
