New Regency President Michael Schaefer Leaving Company After Seven Years

EXCLUSIVE: Michael Schaefer, President of Motion Picture and Television of New Regency Productions, is exiting his post after seven years. We’re hearing this is an amicable decision between both parties and has been in the works for some time, coordinated with New Regency chairman and CEO Yariv Milchan. Schaefer will explore new opportunities as a producer across film and television.

At New Regency, Schaefer oversaw the production of films including Zach Cregger’s Barbarian, starring Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård and Justin Long; Deep Water, starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas; Robert Eggers’ The Northman, starring Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman and Willem Dafoe; and Bohemian Rhapsody, starring Rami Malek, which won four Oscars including Best Actor for Malek.

On the TV side, Schaefer executive produced New Regency’s upcoming Prime Video series Mr & Mrs. Smith starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine; the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room starring Tom Holland, Amanda Seyfried and Emmy Rossum; and the Prime Video series Swarm.

New Regency’s next release The Bikeriders, directed by Jeff Nichols and starring Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy and Michael Shannon, arrives in theaters December 1. Milchan and Schaefer also produced Steve McQueen‘s World War II epic Blitz for Apple TV+ slated for release next year.
