Reese Witherspoon's Son Deacon Phillippe Looks Just Like His Dad on the Golden Globes Red Carpet

Reese Witherspoon brought the perfect plus one as her Golden Globes date on Sunday, it was her 20-year-old son Deacon Phillippe from her first marriage to Ryan Phillippe. The 47-year-old actress brought her oldest son along for the ride all weekend long — the 2024 Vanity Fair pre-Golden Globe party and the awards show — they enjoyed a mother-son date two nights in a row. But Deacon was looking just like his dad on that red carpet.

Looking dapper in a well-tailored tuxedo, Deacon shared with Variety‘s Marc Malkin that this was his “first Golden Globes and really my first awards show.” It almost as if it was Ryan on the red carpet over 20 years ago — they look that much alike! Deacon didn’t look nervous at all as his mom looked proudly on as he handled himself like a total pro. He admitted he was “excited” to be there with Witherspoon and spilled some tea on the advice his mother gave him.

“OK, there’s two main things: gum, hand sanitizer, and be nice to everyone. That’s it,” he shared. Witherspoon smiled with approval because she knew that she and her ex-husband raised a great son. Malkin wanted to know if he had a curfew tonight, but again, Deacon dished about Witherspoon, sharing that “she’s the party animal” and that he was “just going to try to keep up” as she gave a hearty laugh.

Deacon is currently a student at New York University, but his passion is music after putting out his first album, A New Earth, in April 2023. “[Fitting everything in is] the hardest part, but I think that if you’re doing what you love, it’s worth the sacrifice of being stressed out sometimes,” he told People last fall about balancing school and work. “I try to create routines. I have a daily schedule and I try to relax in certain times and then go hard in others.”

So, while his mom and lookalike dad aren’t musicians, Deacon is following his parents into the entertainment industry — and an invite to the Golden Globes show is definitely a night he didn’t want to miss. Just think of the networking opportunities ahead!
