A Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon Tuesday to 8 p.m. this evening for gusty winds and low humidity for Virginia, southern Maryland and the eastern West Virginia panhandle, according to the U.S. National Weather Service.

Winds

West 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 to 45 mph.

Relative Humidity

As low as 18 percent.

Impacts

Critical fire weather conditions are expected through Tuesday evening. All outdoor burning is discouraged, as fires could rapidly spread and become uncontrollable, per NWS.

Fuel Moisture

Dropping to around 7 or 8 percent.

Precautionary Actions

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior, per NWS.
