Video game nerds experienced a simultaneous moment of euphoria Tuesday when Rockstar Games finally announced that, yes, a new Red Dead game was on the way.
Fans of the open-world, third-person western shooter have been waiting six years for a new installment in the series and next year, it will arrive. Rockstar began getting fans in a tizzy Sunday when its social media accounts shared artwork that could only be related to the series, but didn't openly say what was happening.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will be in stores fall 2017, according to Rockstar. The first trailer for the game will drop Thursday.
"Developed by the creators of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of life in America's unforgiving heartland," according to Rockstar. "The game's vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience."
The pervious game in the series, Red Dead Redemption, was met with financial and critical acclaim.
Celebrities were even excited about the new game's announcement.
"GOOD VERY VERY GOOD," Lin-Manuel Miranda tweeted.
