Here are the records ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ concert movie broke

Taylor Swift cannot stop smashing records in 2023. This time, her concert movie “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” became the highest-grossing domestic release of a concert movie, surpassing Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never” film release in 2011.

She scored $95 million in domestic sales opening weekend while Bieber’s previous record stood at $73 million, according to CNBC.

“It’s such a unique achievement because we’re talking about a tentpole-level opening that didn’t exist on the planning calendar a few months ago,” Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at Box Office pro told Variety

‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ concert movie records

Swift announced the movie release in August to her fans through her social media accounts, avoiding going through a major studio and releasing it directly to theaters. and hasn’t done much advertising outside of that for the movie. Despite the lack of promotion, Swifties showed up in droves.

Here are some of the records Swift’s concert movie also shattered.

• It could be the biggest October box office in history, once the month ends — a record which is currently held by “Joker” released in Oct. 2019, Variety reported.

• Internationally, the film reached No. 1 at the box office in the United Kingdom, Mexico, Australia, Germany and the Philippines over the weekend, per CNN.

• Initial sales for the movie broke another record — the highest ticket-sales revenue during a single day in the 103-year history of AMC, according to AMC.
