Apr. 24—SUPERIOR — The University of Wisconsin-Superior will host a performance featuring music department alumni at 3 p.m., May 5 in Webb Recital Hall. The event is free, but donations will benefit

UWS's Community Music School

.

Throughout the past two years, the Community Music School has provided more than 1,000 hours of instruction to children of all ages in group and individual settings and has served over 50 music educators through professional development sessions.

"In 2023, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center with a commitment to provide 50 children with access to music lessons, and to provide professional development to 50 music educators," said David Potter, assistant professor and director of the Community Music School. "During the 2023-24 school year, we are proud to announce that we exceeded those expectations. In keeping with our theme of 50, we hope to have, on average, 50 people who will donate 50 dollars so that we may provide free lessons over the next 50 weeks of the 2024-25 school year."

This recital, featuring performances from UWS Music Department alumni, current students and other community members, will highlight the work the Community Music School is doing in addition to raising needed financial support.

Scheduled to perform include UWS alumni David Packa, Ashley Lenich, Byron Klimek, Kristiina Thums and Aine Miller. Community Music School instructors and current students Aidan Jones, Emma Jones and Nathaniel Fechtelkotter will also perform.
