"I was sort of blindsided by it," the 'X-Men' actress said of the 'Full House' alum's autobiography 'If You Would Have Told Me'

Rebecca Romijn is finally addressing the elephant in the room.

Months after her ex-husband John Stamos made headlines for his candor about their marriage in his memoir If You Would Have Told Me, Romijn is speaking out about it for the first time.

"I was very surprised by all of that, incredibly shocked actually," the X-Men actress, 51, told Entertainment Tonight. "I was sort of blindsided by it. But you know, I don't really want to help him sell his books based on those headlines. So that's all I really want to say about it."

Romijn was married to the Full House alum, 60, from 1998 to 2005. In his book, which was released in October 2023, Stamos accused Romijn of infidelity.

He also opened up about feeling emasculated in their marriage, especially as Romijn's career began to take off while Stamos's hit a lull.

"My first marriage was shattering to me. I was shattered for way too long, too," Stamos later told PEOPLE. "I mean, a year, OK, good. But it went on [for] years and years."

Acknowledging that it was "difficult" to write the chapters about his time with Romijn, Stamos said the experience allowed him to reflect on his feelings at the time.

"In my mind back then, she was the Devil, and I just hated her," he admitted. "I couldn't believe how much I hated her, and it ruined my life."

Stamos explained how, back then, "one of the steps in AA, the fourth step, is you lay out all your grievances, everything that people did to you. And then I said, 'Oh, she did this, she did that, blah, blah, she did blah, blah.' And then my sponsor goes, 'Now what part did you play in that?' And I go, like, 'None.'"

Recognizing he played "some part" in his first marriage's demise, the Big Shot actor — who is now married to Caitlin McHugh Stamos — added: "You start thinking, it's like, 'Oh, she wasn't the Devil. Maybe I was as much to blame as her.'"

As Stamos's revelations and claims made headlines, Romijn's husband Jerry O'Connell said on The Talk that addressing the remarks "would be bringing attention to a situation I don't want to feed into."

"There's children involved, teenage children who read everything on the internet," he also said of his children with Romijn. "So you don't want to feed that fire."
