“It’s my happy place. My goodness, it’s hard to explain how much I love the crew and the people of ‘Silo,’” declares Rebecca Ferguson about starring in the popular sci-fi drama “Silo,” hot on the heels of her high-profile work in “Dune Part 2” and the latest in the “Mission Impossible” film series. For our recent webchat she adds, “It’s the first time where I find myself calling Apple going, ‘hey, uh, what are the numbers? What are we looking at? How’s it going? Because I want to be called back,” she smiles. “I want to shoot another season. I want to go back into that world again. So, I really care that people love it and I’m really invested in it. I’m invested in the people that I’m invested in, more than just myself. I’m invested in the whole show.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

In “Silo,” the last 10,000 people on Earth are living in a gargantuan concrete silo a mile underground, supposedly keeping them safe from the destroyed and dangerous post-apocalyptic world outside. No one knows when or why the silo was built and anyone who asks too many questions gets in serious trouble and is usually banished to the toxic surface (essentially a death sentence) to “clean” a lone security camera that is the silo residents’ only connection to the outside world. When engineer Juliette (Ferguson) begins investigating the murder of a loved one, she uncovers a subterranean mystery that goes deeper than she ever could have imagined.

“Silo” was created by Emmy winning writer/producer Graham Yost, which he adapted from the bestselling novel trilogy by Hugh Howey, with Oscar nominee Morten Tyldum directing the first three episodes. Ferguson (who also executive produces) stars as Juliette, who leads the emerging resistance against the status-quo in the silo. Oscar winner Tim Robbins also co-stars alongside Oscar, Emmy and Grammy winner Common and Emmy nominees Harriet WalterDavid Oyelowo and Rashida Jones. The series’ 10-episode freshman season concluded last June on Apple TV+, with Season 2 wrapping production in March this year. “Silo” has become a hit for the streamer, debuting as the #1 drama in the history of Apple TV+ with its viewership growing by double digits while also being a hit with critics.

The sci-fi drama contemplates big existential ideas about power, class and truth through a retro-futuristic industrial sci-fi lens, with audiences inevitably drawing parallels to current events. “What we’re deciphering is 10 episodes of a TV show with character building and worlds and philosophy and human psychological behavior. But it’s very much a part of our world as well; with Big Brother and being constant controlled,” Ferguson says. “What would happen if all of us right now grabbed our stuff, a couple of cows, a couple of animals, and just ran into a silo? Where would we be in 200 years? We won’t have evolved in that sense. We’re recycling, we’re reusing. It’s like going back in time, you know, taking away all of our religion. There’s no God, there’s nothing. There is only a book. And then you erase our history. It’s so thought provokingly gorgeous. I love it,” she says. “I see Juliette as one of those little plants in cement that breaks through, like you can’t stop nature. See, the curiosity of a person will always conquer over restrictions.”
