When Blake Shelton exited The Voice last season, NBC needed another country A-lister to fill those big shoes. They found the perfect replacement in Reba McEntire, but the reality competition series might not be the show she signed up for — it’s reportedly a little tough behind the scenes.

The 68-year-old singer joined John Legend, Niall Horan, and Gwen Stefani for the 24th season, but it seems that she was surprised by the competitive atmosphere. “She didn’t realize how double-crossing it all was, so it’s been a shock, to say the least,” a source told RadarOnline. McEntire, who has a sweet-as-pie reputation, wasn’t ready to go to battle in such a negative way. “Reba came on board with high hopes and the best intentions but she’s sick of it already,” a second insider told The National Enquirer via RadarOnline. “She realizes they’re all phonies and she’s had to get sneaky just to be heard — and that’s not her style.”

If the on-set shenanigans don’t improve, it’s possible that this will be a one-season opportunity only for the “I’m a Survivor” singer. “She’s demanding a whole lot more respect or she’ll throw their contract in their faces and hightail it back to Nashville.” The insider continued. “What’s happening around her on The Voice just confirms what a snake pit Hollywood is. Reba is just a simple country gal at heart.” It does seem, though, that McEntire did expect a bit of friendly competition because the teaser shows her joking about her fellow judges in the NBC teaser.

“Am I supposed to like y’all? Be mean to you? Is there something that I need to know to let me win?” McEntire said herself in a teaser released by NBC. “The blind auditions were so much harder than I thought they were gonna be. They block you and it’s just so devious.” And of course she teased Stefani with a cute laugh, “They’re real mean. Especially Gwen.” The entire cast and crew of The Voice better be treating McEntire like the queen that she is — country royalty!
