It's really called Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and it's coming in 2025 complete with a sentient ventriloquist's dummy and a guitar gun

Confirming earlier rumors, the full title of the Hideo Kojima-directed sequel is Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and we just got an extensive new trailer at PlayStation State of Play revealing that the game is set to launch in 2025.

The new trailer is just as dense with wild speculative imagery and concepts as you'd expect, but the standouts include what appear to be a sentient ventriloquist's dummy that'll hang on your waist and a flying machine that looks a suspicious degree like Metal Gear Rex. Oh, and the revived Higgs appears to be wielding a guitar that shoots lightning. Personally, I also have a lot of questions about why the ship looks just like Metal Gear Rex. That's not just me, right?

The On the Beach subtitle for the new game hit the rumor mills last week, and was confirmed to day. The name very much appears to be a pretty direct reference to a 1959 film of the same name. Kojima has professed to being a big fan of that film, which shows how a varied group of characters deal with the inevitable death that follows a nuclear apocalypse.

Kojima had a lot to reveal at today's event, including a new "action espionage game" that seems like a throwback to his Metal Gear roots. Between that, Death Stranding 2, and OD, the director is clearly keeping busy.

After literal hours of Death Stranding cutscenes, Hideo Kojima is threatening that his next game will "transcend the barriers between film and video games."
