The new Bachelorette Katie Thurston has completed her season 17 journey at a resort in New Mexico, and it's set to premiere June 7.
Katie was so decisive handing out roses that filming finished one week early on April 24.
Reality Steve spilled the tea on who the villain is and who makes it to the final four.
Buckle up Bachelor fans, there's another season of The Bachelorette coming so soon. After an unpredictable 2020 of filming stops and starts, the ABC producers now seem to have filming in a COVID-safe bubble on lock.
The newly crowned Bachelorette Katie Thurston also helped keep everything ahead of schedule. She wrapped filming with all her husband hopefuls one whole week early, according to Us Weekly. It was another closed bubble set so minimal spoilers have emerged from Reality Steve, so far. But, you know all the sleuths are out for intel and ready to spill all the reali-tea as soon as it boils over. And, ABC just released the first sneak peek of what's to come for Katie.
ICYDK, Reality Steve has spoiled the ending of The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and its various spinoffs for years. His spoilers are spot-on basically every. single. time. (Noteworthy exception: He didn't pinpoint Bachelor Peter Weber's chosen co-pilot until the end of the season, but to be fair, the pilot didn't either.)
Now that the Bachelorette and cast are back home, new spoilers are beginning to bubble up slowly. With that said, what exactly is going down now on The Bachelorette? And did she find love—or not? Allow me to fill in all the blanks RN.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD. Do not keep reading if you don’t want to know what happens during Season 17 of The Bachelorette before it airs on ABC!
When does The Bachelorette premiere?
ABC announced the official tune-in date on Instagram April 7. Katie, her contestants, and bushels of roses will grace your TV screens starting June 7.
Naturally, fans are seriously stoked. One commented, "She looks amazing! I’m so excited!!!!! Katie is the best 👏."
There's also a teaser to get everyone more excited about the new season.
"Katie is unapologetically herself and is ready to find the one. #TheBachelorette premieres June 7 on ABC!"
"I am who I am, and I wanna meet someone who knows who they are," Katie says with confidence in a voiceover. "My person’s still out there." She wears a sparkly lavender gown and a shirt with the words "Be a Katie."
Katie is counting down to her grand debut on Instagram, too. "You know what is in exactly one month? 👀 🌹 What is your drink of choice while watching @bacheloretteabc ?"
What happens on night one?
ABC just shared the first glimpse of scenes from Katie's Bachelorette season on Instagram. It's a short clip, but there's a lot to analyze.
Two gentlemen roll in a giant present wrapped with a bow and say, "I'm looking for The Bachelorette." There's also a blow-up doll and a few other perhaps purrr-fect entrances before Katie asserts her position. "If you're not here for the right reasons, there's the door," she says with confidence.
Say it with me now: "Cheers to not being that guy."
When did ABC film The Bachelorette?
All the cast and crew started quarantining in early March and filming continued through the weekend of April 24. There's still a lot not officially announced, but they started right on schedule and ended with time to spare.
"They’re already there, like, at least they’re quarantining for it. There’s no pause on it," former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay revealed on the "Bachelor Party" podcast on March 9.
Who received the first impression rose?
While first impression roses are pretty much a guarantee that someone won’t win that season on The Bachelor, it’s a little different on The Bachelorette. Plenty of men who were handed the first impression rose later went on to win the final one. So… Katie handing out a first impression rose to a contestant holds some serious weight.
Who is the lucky guy? Reality Steve revealed it was Greg Grippo in a tweet.
Greg, who has some serious Shawn Booth vibes (based purely on photos), has actually been in The Bachelorette mix before. He was among the potential cast for Clare Crawley’s season of The Bachelorette, but didn’t make it to filming. The reason? Unclear, but it could have been as simple as his life not vibing with production’s super-delayed pandemic schedule.
Greg is 27—three years younger than Katie—and is from Edison, New Jersey. And, apparently, he’s in it for the right reasons, because his Instagram is private. (Dangit, Greg! How are we supposed to cyberstalk you now?)
He is, however, on LinkedIn, which says he’s an account manager at digital marketing and tech staffing company Mondo. (He wrote on LinkedIn in November that he was "excited" to join the company.) Before that, Greg was a marketing executive at Melaleuca: The Wellness Company.
He graduated from Vermont’s St. Michael’s College with a BBA in 2016, where he was captain of the men’s basketball team. According to his St. Michael’s profile, Greg is 6 feet, 3 inches, 190 pounds, and a beast on the court. He also has a brother named Joe and a sister named Samantha. Oh, and fun fact—he minored in gender studies.
Reality Steve also says Greg sticks around at least to the final four. That good impression was spot on like many Bachelorette seasons before.
What else happened on Katie's season as The Bachelorette?
You already know filming wrapped early, but it's not a Clare riding off into the sunset with Dale situation again. (Or at least it doesn't appear to be.) Katie was simply decisive. "Katie was in control and made sure the men she wanted were there and the men she wasn’t interested in, she sent packing," an insider source told Us Weekly.
Overall filming for season 17 “went great and it wrapped a week ahead of schedule."
Former Bachelor and Katie's ex Matt James had all positive things to say about her as the lead. "I think that she's going to be one of the best to ever do it, and it's not going to be a surprise to me as we watch everyone across the country fall in love with her," he told E! News. "I should've [asked] Katie for advice! She's incredible. She's going to do so well, and I'm excited for her to have this space to find her person."
But, Kaitlyn Bristowe had juicier intel: "I’m definitely not going to say much because I don’t wanna get in trouble, but I mean, maybe I can say it’s the most dramatic season yet," Kaitlyn said on the April 29th episode of her "Off the Vine" podcast. “I think it’s going to be really fun."
It's also a very "sex positive" season to absolutely nobody's surprise. Steve explains how that plays out: "They’ve already started the season with a tagline “See what the buzz is all about,” which is in reference to Katie bringing the vibrator night 1 of Matt’s season. We already know by the first promo, one of the guys (Cody) brings a blow up doll the first night. I can also tell you there’s a group date this season where the guys have to show their “sex moves.” So yeah, any thought that this franchise was gonna move away from the sex themed dates, or numerous sexual innuendos we see season and season out, well, you can throw that idea out the window this season. There will be plenty of talk and dates that are sexual in nature. The sex thing is played up more so than normal this season from what I’m being told."
Who's hosting The Bachelorette?
The answer is technically nobody. The longtime host Chris Harrison is taking time away away from the franchise following his controversial interview with former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay.
The former leads are not filling in as hosts, though.“The way that it’s been presented on the set is that Tayshia and Kaitlyn are not replacing Chris. They aren’t even referred to as hosts. It was made perfectly clear by the producers that they are not replacing him. They were brought in at the last moment,” a source told Us Weekly in April. “Their role is more experienced girlfriends to Katie and experienced contestants to the guys. They act professional, they’re on time and are helping the franchise as much as they can in this funky situation.”
"In his absence, former Bachelorettes Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe will support the new Bachelorette through next season. As we continue the dialogue around achieving greater equity and inclusion within The Bachelor franchise, we are dedicated to improving the BIPOC representation of our crew, including executive producer ranks."
To no one's surprise, they were top-notch hosts. "Tayshia and Kaitlyn can relate to Katie’s journey in a lot of different ways, which you’ll see play out, so it was nice to have them there to help out with whatever situation came up," an insider source told Us Weekly. “Tayshia had fun and loved doing it. She and Kaitlyn made a great team.”
And, Zac Clark visited Tayshia on set.
Prepare for an overload of adorable pics from the engaged couple. Tayshia shared a glimpse of their romantic reunion in the desert on Instagram stories. “I’m very happy today because I got a surprise visit,” while zooming in Zac as he snacked in the kitchen nearby. She asked, "why are you so weird?" And, followed it up with a quick, "I love you."
Then, Tayshia shared a whole series of photos trail walking with Zac captioned: "Wanderlust and desert dust✨🤍"
They celebrated Easter together with a too-cute personalized Easter egg hunt.
Where is The Bachelorette filming?
Everyone was supposed to jet up to Canada to start filming at The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, but new COVID-19 precautions put a stop to that real fast. "Due to the updated quarantine restrictions in Canada laid out last week, I’ve been told 'Bachelorette' will NOT be filming there next season anymore," Reality Steve tweeted.
The blogger confirmed the new bubble set location in February. The Bachelorette is heading to New Mexico and staying at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa about 20 min outside of Albuquerque. It sits on 550 acres of the Native American Santa Ana Pueblo between the Sandia Mountains and the Rio Grande River.
The property has tons of date opportunities. There's horseback riding, equestrian yoga offerings, cycling, hot air ballooning, jeep tours, hiking, fly fishing, and much more. It also has three pools, five restaurants, tennis courts, an 18-hole golf course, and the Tamaya Mist Spa & Salon.
Keep an eye on Tayshia's Instagram and outings with Zac for some potential date previews.
What else should I know about Katie's contestants?
ABC announced 34 single dudes hoping to woo the Bachelorette on March 18. Not all of them will make the initial cut, and the cast has already had some switcheroos. "I have heard that there are several people of color who have removed themselves from the show, that were a part of casting for this current season," Rachel revealed on the "Bachelor Party" podcast.
Before becoming the next Bachelorette, Katie shared with ABC a few of her dealbreakers and what she wants in a spouse in her Bachelor bio. "She needs a man who can laugh along with her but is okay with him laughing at her too when the moment calls for it. Katie is looking for a mature man who has ambitions to succeed in everything he does, both personally and professionally," her bio says. "Her dream man will be passionate about building a long-term life with her and will treat Katie as his equal in the relationship. Nothing turns her off more than someone who sits around playing video games all day or a man who tries to kiss her at the inopportune moment….It’s all about creating the right vibe with Katie!"
TBD if the many 20-somethings have what it takes. More than half of the cast is younger than Katie, who's 30. There a whopping 10 26-year-olds in the initial batch, according to @Bachelordata. There are nine men older than Katie.
So far, Reality Steve has been sharing basic intel on the cast and is finally ready to spill the tea. He tweeted: "The digging has already started. A couple questionable guys in this crop. We’ll see who makes it."
One contestant who may have an upper hand is Hunter Montgomery, who is 33 or 34, per Reality Steve. He's a divorced father of two from Houston and shares all about relationships, fatherhood, and more on TikTok, @hmontgomery86.
He knows one of the villains who will "ruffle some feathers" this season. Steve says: "Thomas Jacobs is an early season “villain.” Basically, he’s the guy that ruffles some feathers early on with the other guys. I believe he gets an early rose, thus making him look like an early favorite, that quickly wears out his welcome with some of the others and Thomas ends up getting eliminated in like episode 3 or 4."
There's also a feud between two San Diego dudes, Aaron Clancy and Cody Menk. Cody goes home first as a result, followed a few weeks later by Aaron.
Who are Katie's final four?
Reality Steve has almost all four of Katie's faves on lock. He writes: "Blake Moynes shows up rather early in the season, he of Clare/Tayshia’s season. Blake makes the final 4 along with Greg Grippo (the first impression rose recipient), and John Hersey. Those 3 I know. I’m not sure who the 4th guy is in the final 4 yet. I’ve heard names but nothing I’m confident about. Those three I am."
Who wins the final rose and does Katie get engaged?
Who wins Katie's heart is still a big mystery. But, Reality Steve confirms that Katie does get engaged (!!) in the finale. He wrote: "Katie is engaged. However, I don’t know to who. I mean, we know 3 of the final four are Blake, John, and Greg, so they are obviously 3 of the 4 people it could be."
Katie is already teasing fans about a possible ring on that finger on Instagram. She shared a short clip joking about her family looking for an engagement ring in her stories. Sure enough, her left hand is jewel-free. The New Found Glory song "All Downhill From Here" plays in the background: "You're hiding something, 'cause it's burning through your eyes"
But, don't read too much into her post-show antics on social, per Steve. "Now that it’s out there publicly she’s engaged, I can see her posting and doing things that make people think that’s not the case, or try to act single or whatever, but don’t be fooled by it. She’s definitely someone that’s gonna have fun with the social media aspect of this show, which we never see from past leads. She knows what she’s doing. I just wouldn’t read too much into everything she does. She’s happy and engaged from everything I’ve been told."
Tbd who got down on one knee for Katie. It looks like fans won't get a spoiler straight from her anytime soon, though.
