Ready to take a spin on the NebulaZ? Bay Beach Amusement Park's newest ride opens Saturday

GREEN BAY - Bay Beach Amusement Park is putting a surprise spin on the unofficial end to summer.

Its new ride, the NebulaZ, will make its debut on Saturday for a "sneak preview." After a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m., the ride will be open to the public.

Bay Beach purchased a refurbished NebulaZ from the manufacturer and had originally expected to have it up and running by late July or early August, but its Labor Day weekend opening still sneaks it in during the 2023 season.

Bay Beach Amusement Park is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Monday for Labor Day weekend.

The red, white and blue ride has four arms each with a four-person gondola that rotate in rapid intertwining orbits. The synchronized arms swing about horizontal axes in a circular motion while the central tower rotates around itself. The gondolas stay upright.

“It’s very aesthetically pleasing. It looks really cool when it’s moving around, so it’s fun for anybody watching it, but it’s also cool to go on,” Bay Beach park manager Jason Arnoldi told the Press-Gazette in April. “It’s not real aggressive. You get some height, you get that little weightlessness feeling going forward and then halfway through the ride it brings you backward, so you get kind of the full gamut of experiences.”

Manufacturer Zamperla has said its “hypnotic movement is like a visual riddle.”

The minimum height requirement for the ride will be 42 inches for passengers with an adult or 48 inches to ride alone. It will cost three 25-cent tickets per person.

Bay Beach will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday of Labor Day weekend and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 9-10, 16-17 and 23-24 before closing for the season.
