The Ready Player Two film adaptation and its release date have been on fans’ minds ever since Ready Player One came out almost five years ago in 2018. The curiosity about the release date and the potential story it could follow only intensified when in 2020, Ernest Cline revealed that the upcoming film was in the early stages of development.

Is there a Ready Player Two release date?

Ready Player Two has no release date, as the film is yet to be greenlit. However, it could likely arrive sometime in 2025 or 2026.

The reason for the 2025 and 2026 release dates is that production has not yet started due to the film not being greenlit. Moreover, development and production plans have been paused thanks to the current Hollywood climate and the ongoing strikes by the Writer’s Guild of America and SAG AFTRA. Once the strikes end and the production is given the green light, the pre-production, filming, and post-production process would likely all take place over a period of 20 months. Thus, this makes the 2025 and 2026 release dates all the more likely.

These dates are an estimation based on our information at the time of this writing.

At the moment, it is unknown who will be a part of Ready Player Two’s cast except Olivia Cooke, the female lead of Ready Player One, who is contractually obligated to return for the sequel as Samantha Cook. However, fans can also expect the male lead, Tye Sheridan, to return for the sequel as Wade Watts, as the actor has expressed interest in returning.
