When I was a kid, I always wondered why some people called autumn fall and others called fall autumn. Using my Google search engine, I discovered we only call autumn fall in the United States. And when did this happen? And did fall become autumn or autumn become fall?

One more click on google revealed the word autumn came into use in the 1300s, while the word “fall” to describe the season first appeared in print in the 1500s. The big question remains: Why? Because leaves FALL from the trees in autumn. Duh.

That being said, autumn/fall always has been my favorite season. Not only is it football season but it is time to put away our bikinis and speedos and get ready for some indoor fun! The Palace Theatre is a great place to take the family, or meet up with friends and enjoy some great entertainment. We have a great line-up for you this fall, kicking off the season we have a couple of fundraisers.

On Sept. 22 we are holding our annual benefit concert, “An Evening with Friends,” where we will be giving away a European cruise for two compliments of Viking River Cruises and Anchor and Away Travel. And don’t miss our Park National Bank sponsored Halloween party on Oct. 28.

We are happy to host the Central Ohio Symphony once again with a classical concert, sponsored by Dr. Al and Ingrid May on Sept. 30. October brings us our annual junior musical, Disney’s “Finding Nemo JR,” directed by Kristi Wink and featuring a cast of 81 young local performers.

Trivia Thursdays will return to the May Pavilion Oct. 19-Nov. 16.

And if you ever find yourself sitting in the audience wishing you were up there with all those happy people, your chance is coming up. Auditions for our holiday tradition, “Christmas at the Palace 2023,” will be held Oct. 22. Kids ages 5 and up may audition from 1-2 p.m. and teens and adults from 2-4 p.m.
