Reaction and stats: Kyle Guy’s buzzer beater spoils Warriors’ comeback in preseason loss to Kings, 114-113

Despite Steph Curry’s fast start to the contest, a rough second quarter put dug the Golden State Warriors into a deep hole in their preseason tilt against the Sacramento Kings.

The Kings outscored the Warriors 37-20 in the second period, shooting 52.7% from the field. However, Golden State was able to chip away at Sacramento’s lead behind Curry and Marquese Chriss.

In the fourth quarter, the Warriors were able to erase the Kings’ 19-point lead, stealing the lead back late with just 3:28 remaining in the contest. However, it wasn’t enough for Sacramento’s Kyle Guy. The Virginia product buried a last-second buzzer-beater from beyond the arc to win Sacramento the preseason contest, 114-113.

Guy capped off his heroic effort with a Sacramento-high 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, including six 3-pointers in 21 minutes.

Here are three things that stood out during Golden State’s second preseason game of the 2020-21 season.

Steph Curry's strong start

After only scoring 10 points on 3-of-10 shooting from the field against the Denver Nuggets, Steph Curry flipped the switch. The two-time Most Valuable Player wasted no time, scoring Golden State's first eight points with a pair of 3-pointers. Curry added another triple to score 11 of the Warriors' first 15 points. Curry finished the first quarter with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field with three assists and two steals in 10 minutes. The six-time All-Star's fast start led to a game-high 29 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the field with four rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block. Although he didn't play in the fourth quarter, Curry still registered five 3-pointers against the Kings. Via @gswchris on Twitter: https://twitter.com/gswchris/status/1339045313978327043?s=20

Marquese Chriss can shoot

During his first season with the Golden State Warriors, Marquese Chriss only shot 20.5% from 3-point range on 0.7 attempts per contest. The 6-foot-9 big never made more than one 3-pointer in any game during the Warriors 2019-20 run. It only took Chriss two preseason games to shatter his shooting numbers from last season. The former lottery pick buried three 3-pointers on four attempts from beyond the arc. Chriss finished the game with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field with nine rebounds and two assists. Dunking Dubs

As Golden State started to make their climb back into the game during the second half, a trio of Warriors threw down some emphatic dunks to help fuel the comeback. After Curry missed a fastbreak layup, Kelly Oubre Jr. finished his attempt with a rim-rocking putback over Golden State's point guard. The Warriors' bench, including Steve Kerr and assistant coach Mike Brown, exploded with smiles and celebration following Sutton's slam. https://twitter.com/NBCSWarriors/status/1339078224555503617?s=20
