Reacher season 2 has brought another of Lee Child's thrilling novels to life, and it's now streaming on Prime Video.

Just a few months after the first series of The Wheel of Time became the most-watched series on Prime Video in 2021, Reacher claimed that title from the fantasy epic after it was watched for 1.84 billion minutes during the week of January 31 to February 6.

Given its impressive debut, it's no surprise that Reacher got a speedy renewal. And from the first batch of episodes, it's clear this season has everything that Reacher fans could want: a twisty, thrilling plot, and plenty of pulse-pounding action sequences.

Here's everything you need to know about Reacher season 2...

Reacher season 2 release date

Reacher season 2 got a three-episode premiere on Prime Video on Friday, December 15.

The new series is eight episodes long, and the remaining five installments will be arriving on Prime Video on Fridays from now on, meaning the fourth episode will arrive on Friday, December 22.

Reacher season 2 cast

As fans of the books will know, there aren't many characters (beyond Jack Reacher himself, obviously) who return between stories.

Aside from the obvious return of Alan Ritchson in the title role, Maria Sten is reprising her role as Frances Neagley in May (via Deadline).

Shaun Sipos (Outer Range) has been cast as David O’Donnell. David served alongside in the 110th,  the Army’s unit of Special Investigators, and is like a brother to him.

Ferdinand Kingsley, Rory Cochrane and Domenick Lombardozzi have also joined the series. Also joining the cast are Luke Bilyk, Dean McKenzie, Edsson Morales, Andres Collantes, Shannon Kook-Chun, Ty Victor Olsson, Josh Blacker, and Al Sapienza.

Serinda Swan (Coroner) has been cast as Karla Dixon. Like David O’Donnell, she served with Reacher in the 110th. According to Amazon, Karla is "an extremely intelligent private investigator who has no problem holding her own in a fight against men much larger than she is".

Second up is Ferdinand Kingsley (The Sandman), who's joined the cast as A.M. He’s a “ghost" and operates under a number of aliases and can pass for any nationality. Amazon says that A.M is only motivated by money and that he's willing to work for the highest bidder.

Rory Cochrane (Encounter) is also on board cast as Shane Langston. Shane is a former NYPD detective with a questionable track record who now heads up security for a private defense contractor.

Domenick Lombardozzi (Magnum P.I.) has been cast as NYPD detective Guy Russo, a tough guy who’s investigating a case that involves several of Reacher’s former squadmates.

Ty Victor Olsson (Wynonna Erp) has been cast as Saropian. A brutal professional hitman, Saropian has been charged with tracking the members of Reacher's old elite military squad.

Josh Blacker (Elysium) has also been cast as Hortense Fields. Fields is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army who oversees the 110th. Al Sapienza (Suits) is also on hand as Marsh, a formidable lieutenant with the NYPD.

Rounding out the team of Reacher’s former Special Investigator Task Force are Luke Bilyk as Calvin Franz, Dean McKenzie as Stan Lowery, Edsson Morales as Manuel Orozco, Andres Collantes as Jorge Sanchez, and Shannon Kook-Chun as Tony Swan.

Reacher season 2 plot

Ahead of the series' debutm Alan Ritchson confirmed that the second season would be based on Bad Luck and Trouble, the 11th book in the Reacher series.

Amazon's summary for Reacher season 2 gives us an even more in-depth explanation of what's to come in this next case, detailing who else he'll be reconnected with, and just how many twists and turns there are in the second season.

It reads: "Reacher Season Two begins when veteran military police investigator Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) receives a coded message that the members of his former U.S. Army unit, the 110th MP Special Investigations, are being mysteriously and brutally murdered one by one.

"Pulled from his drifter lifestyle, Reacher reunites with three of his former teammates turned chosen family to investigate, including Frances Neagley (Maria Sten); Karla Dixon (Serinda Swan), a forensic accountant for whom Reacher has long had a soft spot; and fast-talking, switchblade-wielding family man David O’Donnell (Shaun Sipos).

Together, they begin to connect the dots in a mystery where the stakes get higher at every turn, and brings about questions of who has betrayed them—and who will die next. Using his inimitable blend of smarts and size, Reacher will stop at nothing to uncover the truth and protect the members of his unit. If there’s one thing Reacher and his team know for certain, it’s that you do not mess with the Special Investigators. This season, get ready for Reacher and the 110th to hit back hard.
