And yes, Reacher Season 1 was a certifiable hit, by all counts. Not only was the action-packed, Alan Ritchson-led adaptation greenlit for a second season just three days after its February 2022 launch, but when it proceeded to top Nielsen’s U.S. ranking of streaming original series, it became the first Prime Video series to claim that coveted No. 1 spot.
“I don’t think that anyone suspected — I know I didn’t — for us to get a second season so quickly,” showrunner Nick Santora (Scorpion) told TVLine at the time. “The term ‘spreading like wildfire’ was used” to describe the show’s swift and strong impact, the EP added. “I don’t know how to qualify ‘wildfire,’ but… the show is just doing incredibly well.”
Season 1 also earned an average TVLine reader grade of “A+” — a rare feat for a whole season.
Filming on Reacher Season 2 began in Toronto in September 2022, and wrapped in February 2023. So, when fans might lay eyes on these new episodes? How many will there be this time around? And who is in them?

WHICH BOOK IS SEASON 2 BASED ON?
Season 1 was based on The Killing Floor, Lee Childs’ first Jack Reacher novel. But showrunner Nick Santora warned fans not to “assume” the TV series would proceed chronologically.
Rather, Season 2 is based on the 11th Jack Reacher novel, 2009’s Bad Luck and Trouble, which (per Amazon.com’s book synopsis) finds Reacher “pulled out of his wandering life and plunged into the heart of a conspiracy that is killing old friends … and the people he once trusted with his life.”
The story begins when Neagley contacts Reacher using a signal that only the eight members of their elite team would know. She then tells him a terrifying story about the brutal death of a man they both served with. Soon Reacher is reuniting with the survivors of his team, scrambling to unravel the sudden disappearance of two other comrades.

What you just read above is what the book was about. As for Season 2 of the TV series….
…Prime Video’s double-secret official synopsis for Season 2 says simply, “When the members of Reacher’s old military unit start turning up dead, Reacher has just one thing on his mind — revenge.”
WHO’S RETURNING FOR SEASON 2?
In addition to Alan Ritchson reprising the titular (and muscular!) role, Maria Sten (Narcissa, Swamp Thing) will also return for Season 2, as Neagley.
As showrunner Nick Santora told TVLine back in March 2022, “You never know if a character [from Season 1] might come back. We might come up with a great idea and say, ‘You know what? Maybe that character can work in Season 2 or Season 3,’ and then you bring them back for a bit or for an extended visit.” But “Reacher is not a character who runs around with an entourage,” the EP reminded. “He’s a lone wolf, so you have to stay true to that.”
WHO’S NEW FOR SEASON 2?
The new cast members for Season 2 include:
■ Serinda Swan (Coroner) and Shaun Sipos (Outer Range) as Karla Dixon and David O’Donnell, both of whom served with Reacher in the Army’s unit of Special Investigators.
■ Robert Patrick (Peacemaker) as Shane Langston, a former NYPD detective with a questionable track record who is now head of security for a private defense contractor. (24‘s Rory Cochrane, originally cast in the role, had to bow out due to scheduling conflicts.)
■ Domenick Lombardozzi (Breakout Kings) as Guy Russo, a NYPD detective investigating a case that involves several of Reacher’s former Army cohorts.
■ Ty Victor Olsson (Wynonna Earp) as Saropian, a brutal professional hitman who is charged with following members of Reacher’s old squad.
■ Ferdinand Kingsley (Victoria) as A.M., a “ghost” operative who is always happy to work for the highest bidder.
■ Josh Blacker (See) as Hortense Fields, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army who oversees Reacher’s Elite 110th Special Investigator’s Unit.
■ Al Sapienza (Suits) as Marsh, a formidable lieutenant with the NYPD.
■ Dean McKenzie (Arrow), Luke Bilyk (Good Witch), Shannon Kook-Chun (The 100), Edsson Morales and Andres Collantes as members of Reacher’s former Special Investigators unit.
HOW MANY EPISODES IS SEASON 2?
Season 1’s take on The Killing Floor spanned eight episodes. Showrunner Nick Santora told TVLine in March 2022, when asked if Season 2 might possibly deliver more of a good thing, “That’s really an Amazon call; if they want more, I’ll give them more! I like writing.”
UPDATE: But no, Season 2 it has since been confirmed will just be another eight episodes.
WHEN IS SEASON 2’S RELEASE DATE?
Whereas Season 1 dropped all eight episodes in February of 2022, Season 2 is on track to be a December release — meaning, later this year (though no precise date or binge-vs.-weekly release pattern has been specified yet).
UPDATE: Prime Video has since announced that Reacher Season 2 will premiere Friday, Dec. 15 — but not as another binge releases. Instead, it was launch with three episodes, followed by weekly drops through Jan. 19, 2024.
