  • The show is based on the Jack Reacher books by Lee Child.

  • Season two is on the way. Here's everything you should know about it.

Prime Video's "Reacher" is returning this year, which means Dads everywhere are going to be thrilled at the prospect of seeing Alan Ritchson punch his way through hordes of bad guys and looking effortlessly cool while doing so.

The show, based on Lee Child's "Jack Reacher" books, stars Ritchson, who is the second actor to step into the titular former-military policeman's shoes. Tom Cruise previously portrayed Reacher in two films in 2012 and 2015.

But the TV adaptation of "Reacher" is adapting different books than the two movies that Cruise starred in.

Here's everything we know about "Reacher" season two.

Ritchson first crashed on screen as Jack Reacher in the Amazon Prime series back in February 2022. The first season adapted the book "The Killing Floor," which sees the ex-serviceman root out widespread corruption that has gripped a small town for decades.

Nearly two years later, the "Titans" and "Fast X" star is stepping back into the role for season two. The show premieres on Prime Video on December 15. The eight-episode season will release weekly until the finale airs on January 19, 2024.

"Reacher" season two is based on Child's 11th book in the Jack Reacher series: "Bad Luck and Trouble." The story sees Reacher assemble his old team of investigators when one of their own is killed after being thrown out of the side of a helicopter from 30,000 feet.

The killers then start trying to assassinate Reacher and the rest of his team, so it becomes a deadly game of cat-and-mouse.

The trailer for season two delivered the signature fast-paced action that audiences fell for in the first batch of episodes, as well as showing a new side to Reacher.

A key part of his character is the fact that he's a loner who wanders the United States after leaving the military, so it'll be interesting to see him work in a team.

Who's in the cast of "Reacher" season 2?

Ritchson leads the cast as Jack Reacher, and he'll be joined by a few new faces as he reunites with his old crew from the US Army 110th MP Special Investigation Unit.

"Krypton" star Shaun Sipos plays Reacher's closest friend from the unit, David O'Donnell, while "Inhumans" and "Coroner" lead Serinda Swan plays Karla Dixon.

Rounding out the main cast are Rory Cochrane as Shane Langston, and Ferdinand Kingsley as "A.M." Meanwhile, Luke Bilyk will play Calvin Franz, the unfortunate teammate whose death kickstarts the whole story.

Also in the cast are "Tulsa King" star Domenick Lombardozzi as Guy Russo, Edsson Morales as Manuel Orozco, Andrés Collantes as Jorge Sanchez, Shannon Kook as Tony Swan, Ty Olsson as Saropian, and Dean McKenzie as Stan Lowery.

Ritchson previously appeared opposite "The Fall of the House of Usher" stars Willa Fitzgerald and Malcolm Goodwin in the first season, although they're not expected to return in season two.

When speaking to Collider, Ritchson touched on saying goodbye to most of the season one cast. He said: "I really fell in love with everybody that I worked with. Every cast member, all the way down to day players who are there just for one line, were some of the best actors and actresses that I've ever worked with.

"Not only that, they were wonderful people too. They're great to be on set with. So, it's rather tragic that there's a chance that I may not see some of them again," he added. "They set the bar so high that we'd be remiss not to see them show again. So, I hope we do."
