Ray J is gearing to celebrate his one of his biggest hits, his 2005 ballad “One Wish,” as it approaches its 20th anniversary.

At the 2023 Soul Train Awards, VIBE caught up with the singer, and even though he’s not quite ready to reflect on his 2022 Verzuz appearance, he is ready to talk new music. “We doing a Raydiation X anniversary album with ‘One Wish’ where we doing some stuff. A lot of collabs and s**t.”

He did tease that he has music with both his sister, Brandy, and niece, Sy’Rai, in the vault, so there’s a chance that some new familial duets could be coming soon. “They just gotta put ’em out,” said Ray.

In the midst of his hosting duties and rekindling the fire in his marriage, we asked if he confirmed that the new music he’s making is “for fun.”

“I like it,” continued the 42-year-old. “That’s a refreshing release.”

Over the summer, he did release a collaboration with Bobby Brackins and P-Lo and prior to that, he and his RSVP bandmates released their debut single, “Money Everywhere,” just a few months after their Verzuz moment. However, Brandy and Sy’Rai currently have the musical spotlight in the Norwood household amid the release of the Vocal Bible’s new (and first) holiday album, Christmas With Brandy.

The mother-daughter duo reunited for their special duet, “Christmas Gift.”

Raydiation dropped in September 2005 as its breakout hit, “One Wish,” peaked No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 the following month. It became Ray’s first top 10 hit on the chart, ahead of “Sexy Can I” featuring Yung Berg soaring to No. 3 three years later.
