Ratings: ‘All American’ and ‘Homecoming’ Season Premieres Struggle to Perform for The CW
The CW may be losing steam with one of its hallmark series. The Season 5 premiere of the young adult football drama “All American” aired Monday, slipping fairly significantly in ratings compared to the previous season’s debut from a 0.23 in the advertiser-friendly 18-49 demographic to just a 0.13.
Monday’s episode also fell in total viewership from 638,000 total viewers to only 447,000. That’s low even compared to the Season 4 average of a 0.17 and 559,000 total viewers.
The Season 2 premiere of the spinoff series “All American: Homecoming” followed, similarly dropping in ratings, though not by nearly as much. The episode managed a 0.1 in the demo and 347,000 total viewers (Compare that to a 0.14 and 473,000 for the Season 1 premiere and a season average of 0.11 and 390,000 total viewers).
The CW generally ranks last in live + same day ratings among the major broadcasters, but with Nexstar already looking to reimagine the network’s content, this is likely not a great sign for the scripted series that remain.
Here’s how the rest of primetime shook out across the major broadcast networks:
NBC was first in ratings with an average 0.61 rating in the key demo, while CBS was first in total viewers with an average of 5.4 million, according to official live + same day Nielsen data.
Fox was second in ratings with an average 0.46 in the demo, and NBC was second in total viewers with an average of 5.1 million.
On NBC, “The Voice” won a 0.72 demo rating and 6.5 million total viewers at 8 p.m. At 10, “Quantum Leap” managed a 0.4 demo rating and 2.5 million total viewers.
ABC was third in ratings with an average 0.38 in the demo, while Fox was third in total viewers with 3.6 million. CBS was fourth in ratings with an average 0.37 in the demo. ABC was fourth in total viewers with an average 2.3 million.
On Fox, “9-1-1” answered the call to a 0.56 demo rating and 4.9 million total viewers at 8 p.m. At 9, “The Cleaning Lady” swept in a 0.35 demo rating and 2.3 million total viewers.

As for ABC, “Bachelor in Paradise” brought home a 0.44 demo rating and 1.9 million total viewers at 8 p.m. “The Good Doctor” mustered a 0.25 demo rating and 3.2 million total viewers at 10.
CBS kicked off the night with “The Neighborhood,” which secured a 0.49 demo rating and 5 million total viewers at 8 p.m. At 8:30, “Bob Hearts Abishola” received a 0.41 demo rating and 4.8 million total viewers. “NCIS” dropped to a 0.39 in the demo, but rose to 6.6 million total viewers at 9. “NCIS: Hawai’i” ended the night with a 0.28 demo rating and 4.6 million total viewers at 10.
The CW was fifth in ratings with an average 0.11 in the demo and in total viewers with an average of 397,000. “All American” got a 0.13 demo rating and 447,000 total viewers at 8 p.m., and “All American: Homecoming” had a 0.1 rating and 347,000 total viewers at 9.
Neither Fox nor The CW air primetime programming at 10.
Among the Spanish-language networks, Univision was first with a 0.4 in the demo and 1.5 million total viewers across primetime. “La Herencia, Un Legado de Amor” received a 0.5 demo rating and 1.4 million total viewers at 8 p.m. “Los ricos también lloran,” which aired from 9 to 11, got a 0.4 in the demo and 1.5 million total viewers.
Telemundo came in second, averaging a 0.2 demo rating and 952,000 total viewers. “Éxatlon,” which aired from 7 to 9, managed a 0.2 demo rating and 954,000 total viewers. “Fuego del Destino” aired to a 0.2 demo rating and 883,000 total viewers from 9 to 10. “Infiel: Historia de un Engaño” closed out the night with a 0.2 demo rating and 1 million total viewers from 10 to 11.
