After reports of rising South Indian star Rashmika Mandanna being deepfaked hit the web, fans are curious to know if that is the case and also want to know how the actress reacted to it. Here is all you need to know about the situation.

Yes, Rashmika Mandanna was reportedly deepfaked.

Indian actress Rashmika Mandanna, who is best known for her performances in recent hit Indian films like Sita Ramam and Pushpa was deepfaked. A recent video emerged which showed a woman, who is actually British Indian model Zara Patel, entering a lift. In the video Rashmika’s face was imposed into Zara’s with the help of Artificial Intelligence.

In response to the video hitting the web, Rajeev Chandrashekhar, the Union Minister for Electronics & Technology tweeted that deepfakes are the latest and more dangerous and damaging form of misinformation that need to be dealt with.

According to a report from Mint, the Delhi Police is currently investigating the situation and has asked Meta to provide the URL of the account from which the deepfaked Rashmika Mandanna video was posted online on social media. This development happened one day after the city’s police filed an FIR connected to the incident.

How did Rashmika Mandanna react to the deepfake video?

Rashmika Mandanna reacted very strongly to the deepfake video’s emergence and expressed her fear about it and its use.

Following the video’s emergence on social media, the Pushpa actress tweeted that the situation was very scary for her and other people targeted by misused technology. In the tweet, Mandanna also thanked her supporters, friends, family, and well-wishers who she said were her protection and support system. Rashmika further stated that if the deepfake incident occurred during her college years, she would not have known how to handle it.

Bollywood icon and Rashmika’s co-star from Goodbye, Amitabh Bachchan, also called for legal action to be taken against those who do deepfakes via Twitter.
