Raptors officially part ways with Jordan Loyd
The Toronto Raptors and guard Jordan Loyd have mutually agreed to part ways, the team confirmed Friday.
Shortly thereafter, it was reported by Emiliano Carchia of Sportando that Loyd will be joining Valencia of Liga ACB.
If that club sounds familiar, it’s because the Raptors recently signed Matt Thomas, who shot 99% eFG while unguarded on catch-and-shoot opportunities during his 2018-19 campaign with Valencia.
Loyd played sparingly during the 2018-19 season, averaging 2.4 points during 4.6 minutes per game in 12 regular season contests. He starred in the G-League for Raptors 905, earning first-team All NBA G-League honours.
The 26-year-old may be best known for his appearance in the corner when Kawhi Leonard sank his iconic buzzer-beater against the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 7 of Toronto’s second-round series this past spring.
During the team’s championship parade, Loyd parodied himself, wearing a “Random Guy in a Suit” t-shirt, as many casual fans were unaware of his presence on the team.
Prior to Loyd’s departure, the Raptors roster was full with 20 players signed, but this potentially opens up a spot for another two-way contract, or to sign another player to an Exhibit 10 contract, which allows them to compete for a roster spot in camp. Oshae Brissett, a Canadian small forward out of Syracuse, signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the team in July.
