On the surface, Key Glock wouldn’t be an obvious choice to appear on the remix to the world-weary “Walkin,” but Denzel Curry reached out to the Memphis rapper after being impressed by Glock’s perseverance following the loss of his best friend and mentor Young Dolph. Having dealt with the brutal death of his own brother, Curry is well-acquainted with the pain of processing tragedy.
“I reached out to Glock because I felt like he’s the perfect example of ‘Walkin,'” Curry explained in a statement. “Based on everything he been through and also being independent, it hasn’t stopped his grind. I’ve always been a fan of Memphis hip-hop so it just felt right.”
He added, “Tomorrow’s never certain and we all go through different obstacles every day. The objective is to keep on walkin, or keep pushing forward.”
The “Walkin” remix drops Curry’s first verse from the original for brevity’s sake, but otherwise remains mostly remains untouched, paving the way for Key Glock to lend his stamp to the standout Melt My Eyez, See Your Future single. He responds by detailing the harsh realities of a life where it’s kill or be killed (“Monster hangin’ with goons and goblins/ I’m so heartless, shoot with a carbon, yeah”) and the necessity of getting money regardless of the obstacles that stand in the way.
Rap Song of the Week: Kendrick Lamar Is No “Savior”
With an unrelenting flow and lyrics about bossing up regardless of the circumstances, Glock’s contribution is a welcome addition to one of the best songs — regardless of genre — released in 2022 to date.

Hearing Southside’s signature siren throughout the beat takes some getting used to, but otherwise, Polo takes the underdog route despite topping both the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 last year. Having grown up in Chicago, he knows every win comes with an inevitable loss: “Like for every win, another L come punch me in my stomach.”
Lil Loaded – “Cell Tales”
On the final day of Mental Health Awareness Month, the estate of Lil Loaded honored the one-year anniversary of his untimely death by suicide with the posthumous release of “Cell Tales.” Exhibiting the talent for melody that made him a rising star, Lil Loaded channels the loneliness of being locked up while acknowledging the mental toll of prison. “I close my eyes and I can see them demons,” he raps, with a voice full of pain and vulnerability.
cupcakKe – “H2hoe”
For most rappers, boasting about drip alludes to their luxury clothes and jewelry. On her infectious new song “H2hoe,” cupcakKe has something different in mind, rapping about everything she can do with “this pussy.” The song is explicit enough to even make Uncle Luke blush, with lyrics like “Then that dick bust a nut in my eyes when I wake up/ It’s serving UK Black girl makeup.”
P-Lo feat. Larry June – “Good”
Veteran producer and rapper P-Lo links up with fellow Bay Area stalwart Larry June on “Good,” which features a lively bounce both artists use to their full advantage. P-Lo details the ups and downs of being a mainstay in the regional hip-hop scene, while Larry June is smooth as ever with nonchalant rhymes about being one of the flyest rappers in the game.
My Favorite Color – “Dead It”
Pittsburgh MC My Favorite Color wants all the smoke on his booming new track, “Dead It.” Eschewing a hook, he talks shit with glee while bouncing all over the anthemic, horn-driven production. “Real shit, put an end to this/ Before you fuck around and have an incident,” the MC sneers, unphased by anyone who dares to step to the plate.
