Randy Travis to Release First New Recording Since Before His 2013 Stroke: 'Magical Moment in My Career'

The 64-year-old country icon thanked his audience for "singing along all these years" as he announced a new single, "Where That Came From"

New music from Randy Travis is on its way.

The 64-year-old country icon took to social media on Wednesday, May 1 to announce he's gearing up to release his first newly-recorded song since before his 2013 stroke — a new single titled "Where That Came From."

"It’s been a while since my last new recording," wrote Travis alongside footage of himself in a recording studio, "but I’m excited to share that this Friday, May 3, I will be releasing my first brand new studio recording in more than a decade, 'Where That Came From.'"

"You’ll hear much more about the special team of folks who came together to help make this magical moment in my career possible in the coming week," teased the Grammy winner.

"In the meantime, just know that when it comes to me singing songs for you, there’s always more where that came from," added Travis. "Thank you for singing along all these years."

The "I Told You So" musician experienced a major stroke in 2013. "The whole third midsection of Randy’s left brain was affected, which is speaking, writing and reading," his wife, Mary, told PEOPLE in 2019.

Randy has remained active through his 2019 memoir, Forever and Ever, Amen: A Memoir of Music, Faith and Braving the Storms of Life, as well as a 2020 documentary, More Life, and a few previously-recorded songs from his vault, including "Fool’s Love Affair," "One in a Row" and "Lead Me Home."

Last year, Mary spoke about her husband's plans for new music in a press conference advertising a live concert, billed as A Heroes and Friends Tribute to Randy Travis, featuring several performers celebrating Randy's career.

At the time, she assured fans "the chances are 100%" that Randy would release an album of songs from his vault in the future. "It has already been mixed," said Mary, per Billboard. "Everything’s ready to go by Kyle Lehning, Randy’s producer….a whole other album of Randy Travis music."

Earlier this week, Randy teased the upcoming release with an Instagram video of himself playing a song on a computer in a recording studio. Many fellow country stars were excited by the news, with Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, Chase Matthew, Cole Swindell, Caylee Hammack, Josh Turner, Cody Johnson and more commenting in support.
