The country musician's latest recording, "Where That Came From," will arrive on the eve of his 65th birthday.

It was just a matter of time: Randy Travis is finally releasing new music.

The Grammy-winning country singer announced on social media Wednesday that his first new studio recording in a decade will be available Friday, which marks the eve of his 65th birthday. The song, titled "Where That Came From," represents Travis' return to recording after a stroke in 2013 severely inhibited his ability to speak, sing, and perform.

"It's been a while since my last new recording, but I'm excited to share that this Friday, May 3, I will be releasing my first brand new studio recording in more than a decade," Travis wrote on Instagram alongside a video previewing the song and featuring footage of him in the studio.

"You'll hear much more about the special team of folks who came together to help make this magical moment in my career possible in the coming week," he continued. "In the meantime, just know that when it comes to me singing songs for you, there's always more where that came from. Thank you for singing along all these years."

Despite the setback of his stroke, Travis has remained active in music. In 2014, he released Influence, Vol. 2: The Man I Am, though the record was predominantly covers, all of which were recorded prior to Travis' stroke.

In 2019 Travis released a memoir, Forever and Ever, Amen: A Memoir of Music, Faith and Braving the Storms of Life, and performed a few engagements with The Voice singer James Dupré. The following year he was the subject of a documentary titled Randy Travis: More Life.

Travis has also released archival recordings in the years since his stroke. His 2020 album Precious Memories (Worship & Faith) featured tracks recorded live in 2003, and the 2020 single "A Fool's Love Affair" was made off a demo recording he made in the 1980s.
