Rami Malek's Mom Was Rooting For Jon Hamm at the Golden Globes
Mr. Robot star Rami Malek was on Ellen Tuesday and talked about his first time at the Golden Globes. While his show won Best Drama, Rami wound up losing out in the Best Actor category to Mad Men star Jon Hamm. It was a bummer to everyone who isn’t Rami’s mother.
“She’s my backbone,” Malek told Ellen DeGenres. “But all she wanted to do was meet Jon Hamm. I was like, ‘OK, Mom. You can meet Jon Hamm, hold on. I’ve got to do some interviews.’ And she’s like, ‘I’ve got to meet Jon Hamm right now.’ I’m like, ‘You understand that’s my competition, right? We’re both up for Best Actor.’ And she’s like, ‘Doesn’t matter.’”
“His name got called and he won, and she was like, ‘He deserved it.’ I was like, ‘OK.’ She loves me to death, but I think she was protecting me, to a certain extent,” Malek explained.
Even though he lost out, Malek had nice things to say about Hamm (who his mom did in fact get to meet). “He’s such a cool guy,” said Malek. “He was so much fun and he is so deserving.”
