Rami Malek calls his Bond villain 'unique' and 'very complex'
Rami Malek has been extremely tight-lipped about the villain he plays in the upcoming James Bond movie No Time To Die (out April 10). But speaking with E! host Ryan Seacrest on the Golden Globes red carpet, the Mr. Robot actor did let slip a couple of clues about what we can expect from his character, Safin.
“He’s quite unique,” said Malek, who is nominated in the best actor in a TV drama category for his role in Mr. Robot. “He’s very complex. Daniel [Craig] calls him ‘misunderstood.’ But I had the most extraordinary time going head-to-head with [Craig]. He is a consummate professional. What was really special about that is, you see these movies, and I love the Bond films, but on day one, going out, on stage, on set, in front of the lens…I actually got a Broadway version, sitting in the front seat, watching Bond do it firsthand. It took me a second to step back and go, ‘What’s my first line again?'”
In No Time To Die, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
No Time To Die is directed by Cary Fukunaga and costars returning franchise cast members Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, and Jeffrey Wright, as well as Bond newbies Ana de Armas, Dali Benssalah, David Dencik, Lashana Lynch, and Billy Magnussen.
