Rama Thai opens sister location; Bellacino's closing one of its Springfield restaurants

This week in Springfield-area restaurant news: Recently-opened Thai restaurant brings new tastes, one restaurant closes to focus on its other location, and a rooftop spot closes.

'Sister location' to Rama Thai opens on National Avenue

A new Thai restaurant has opened in Springfield. Thai Square, 307 S. National Ave., is what Rama Thai Cafe calls its "sister location."

The restaurant officially opened its doors for dining in and takeout on Nov. 5.

Thai Square is open from noon to 8 p.m. and is closed on Wednesdays. The menu is smaller than Rama Thai Cafe's, but includes new entrees such as khao moo grub — pork belly with sweet sauce served with rice — and tom yum fried rice.

Bellacino's announces closure of Campbell Avenue location

Bellacino's Pizza and Grinders at 4560 S. Campbell Ave. will close on Saturday, Nov. 11, according to owner Janice Goocher. The Bellacino's at 2856 S. Glenstone Ave. will remain open.

"Our cozy, family-focused vibe is at our core, and we're shifting to focus solely on our Glenstone spot," said a Facebook post announcing the location's last day.

According to previous News-Leader reporting, the Campbell Avenue location was the first Bellacino's in Springfield. Blaine and Janice Goocher opened it in 2013.

The Glenstone location is closed on Mondays, open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Rooftop restaurant and bar closes after less than year in business

Fine dining restaurant Traza Rooftop + Restaurant, 2144 E. Republic Road, announced it will close its doors on Dec. 29, according to a Nov. 6 Facebook post.

Traza, a rooftop restaurant and bar in Springfield's Farmer's Park complex, opened in February. It offers brunch, dinner, cocktails and wine. Traza will remain open from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays for dinner and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday for brunch.

"After a couple of months of reflection and careful consideration, we have reached the difficult decision to bring this chapter to a close," the post said.

Traza is owned by the Cantera Group, which also owns Catrina's, a modern Mexican food restaurant.
