Rachel Weisz Is Playing Elizabeth Taylor In An Upcoming Biopic

Weisz Continues Her Hot Streak

Rachel Weisz has announced her next big project following her Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for The Favourite. She will be portraying Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor in the upcoming biopic A Special Relationship.

The Next Major Biopic

The screenplay for A Special Relationship was written by Slumdog Millionaire scribe Simon Beaufoy and directed by the female directing duo Bert & Bertie. The film will focus on Taylor's relationship with her assistant Roger Wall.

The Main Focus

Taylor hired Wall, a homosexual man from the Deep South, to be her assistant in the 1980s and the two developed a very close friendship. He was diagnosed with HIV in 1991 died by suicide with sleeping pills. Taylor referred to his death as "one of the biggest losses of her life."

Following Wall's death, Taylor became dedicated to activism and championing HIV research and causes.
