Rachel Weisz Hit the Oscars Red Carpet in a Two-Piece Gown — with Latex!

Rachel Weisz arrived at the 2019 Oscars dressed to impress.

The actress, 48, wowed in a bright red Givenchy Couture two-piece design featuring a shiny latex caplet layered over an embroidered gown with sparkling embellishments. She also wore a matching clutch by the French luxury house. The nominee opted for a subtle makeup look to let her bold ensemble be the star of the show.

“We just thought it was really cool,” her stylist Kate Young told PEOPLE exclusively. “It feels fancy and couture and sort of old world in a way but yet super modern.”

The star accessorized her hair with two silver Cartier feather pins from 1903 for an elegant pop.

“We basically had to sew them into her hair. I wanted to use old jewelry and do it in a way that felt really chic, current, clean and minimal,” Young added.

Her husband, James Bond star Daniel Craig did not accompany his wife on the carpet but was spotted by her side inside the awards show. He wore a blue Tom Ford tuxedo with black satin peak lapel and Gianni patent lace-up shoes.

Weisz was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as the manipulative duchess of Marlborough in The Favourite.

The actress had a lot of fun with the part. “My favorite moments from The Favourite are the scenes where I teach Emma Stone to shoot guns and then she becomes much better than me,” the actress revealed, referencing pointed exchanges between the two characters where Weisz is trying to establish dominance over Stone’s seemingly naive Abigail. Marlborough’s plan doesn’t pan out exactly as she thought it would.

The Yorgos Lanthimos–directed film has a total of 10 nominations. Weisz, who previously won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for 2005’s The Constant Gardener star is nominated in the same category again this year, along with her Favourite costar Stone, If Beale Street Could Talk‘s star Regina King, Vice’s Amy Adams, and Roma’s Marina de Tavira.

Weisz, who appears in PEOPLE’s Oscar Portfolio, also took the time to answer a few questions from editor-in-chief Jess Cagle.

She says she always carries “a chapstick” in her purse for awards shows and that one performance she could watch over and over again is Ingrid Bergman’s in 1944’s Best Picture winner Casablanca. One thing Weisz will be looking forward to eating after the Oscars ceremony is “a burger.”

The 91st Academy Awards take place on Feb. 24 and air live on ABC at 8 p.m.
