A friend in Rachel Lindsay's corner is offering an update on the former Bachelorette after the news that her husband Bryan Abasolo filed for divorce.

Abasolo, 43, who met Lindsay, 38, on her season of the dating show and married her in 2019, filed for divorce on Tuesday, citing “irreconcilable differences” and listing their date of separation as Dec. 31, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.

On Wednesday, Justin Sylvester gave Bachelor Nation an update on how the lawyer is doing on Today with Hoda & Jenna.

“She’s taking it day by day,” Sylvester shared. “I talked to her this morning. She’s just trying to pick up the pieces. She’s in survival mode.”

The E! News host also offered a reaction to the statement that Abasolo released just hours after the divorce filing went public, as he said “it was weird and kind of telling” given that Lindsay is “super private about her personal life.”

The couple has largely kept their relationship out of the spotlight in the six years since their engagement.

“But if everybody just gives her her privacy right now, I know that when she’s ready to talk, she will have a lot to say,” Sylvester concluded.

The update from Lindsay’s friend and fellow TV personality comes after she acknowledged that 2023 was “one of the hardest years of my life” in an Instagram post recapping the year that she posted on the same day Abasolo filed for divorce.

She said in the caption that she is “choosing to focus on grateful moments and carrying that energy into 2024. 💛”

Abasolo, meanwhile, shared the news of the split on Instagram,

“After more than 4 years of marriage, Rachel and I have made the difficult decision to part ways and start anew," he wrote. "My parents have been married forever and I'm a family man, but sometimes loving yourself and your partner means you must let go.”

The chiropractor said that he doesn’t “like to put my personal affairs on social media and like to keep a safe space for our family,” adding that being a husband was his “proudest role so far.”

He continued, “I wanted you to hear it from the source before the blogs start making up their own reality. Please respect the spaces of our family and friends as we figure out our next steps."

News of the split comes just after Lindsay appeared on the Dec. 21 episode of Nick Viall’s Viall Files podcast and said that she and Abasolo had kept their relationship private “because people were so critical of us when we came off the show.”

"Marriage has ups and downs, but you never know when we’re good or when we’re not because we never put it out there,” the Real Love author continued. “I kind of want to keep it that way, so when I want to share something, I do."

She also admitted during the episode that she and Abasolo were living "totally different lives."

Expanding on how their careers played a factor in the amount of time they spent with one another, the television personality added, “Bryan is a sole practitioner [and] he leaves the house at 8. He comes home at 9 o’clock, 9:30 [at night] sometimes. It’s just him by himself."

“Me, especially now that I’m not doing Extra, I have a lot more free time… and then I’m back in hustle mode trying to get a second job, so I go to events," Lindsay said. "So, we’re just in two totally different places.”
