Josie and the Pussycats are getting back together!

On Wednesday, Washington D.C.'s Awesome Con exclusively shared with PEOPLE that Rosario Dawson, Rachael Leigh Cook and Tara Reid will hold a Josie and the Pussycats reunion at the upcoming comic book convention in March, almost 23 years after the film's release.

"JPC will always have such a special place in my heart," Cook, 44, says in a statement about the upcoming reunion. "A strong through-line message in the movie is about celebrating and prioritizing your friendships; and weekends like this one are a perfect opportunity for the three of us to reminisce and do just that."

"I will be there with cat ears and bells on. Just don’t expect us to actually play," she adds. "We would never do that to you.”

The upcoming convention previously announced that Dawson, 44, will make an appearance on Saturday, March 9 for a Star Wars panel alongside Hayden Christensen and other actors from the Disney+ series Ashoka. On top of that, fans will have the opportunity to see her, Reid and Cook reminisce on bringing the famed Archie Comics and Hanna-Barbera cartoon series to life in their 2001 movie.

“So happy to get the band back together," Reid, 48, tells PEOPLE of the upcoming reunion in a statement. "I love those girls so much! It’s gonna be a blast!!!!”

Josie and the Pussycats follows three young women — Josie (Cook), Melody (Reid) and Valerie (Dawson) — whose titular rock band suddenly receives a major record deal and quickly finds fame. The band members contend with the struggles of newfound popularity and a label-orchestrated scheme to use popular musicians to influence teenagers' spending decisions. The movie, which also starred Alan Cumming and Parker Posey, has gained a cult following in the 20-plus years since its release.

The film celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2001. Cook even reprised her role as Josie in an Archie Comics-themed episode of Robot Chicken that year to celebrate the anniversary.

"We all loved the movie we made, but sometimes movies don't make money," Cook told PEOPLE of Josie and the Pussycats at the time. The film made $14.8 million worldwide upon its release in 2001. "It's just a business ... but it does do my heart good to know a movie that meant so much to me and the other girls when we made it is now resonating with other people."

Cook, Dawson and Reid held a reunion over Zoom that year, too, in which Dawson admitted that Josie and the Pussycats' satirical take on the pop music industry proved "ahead of its time."

"You watch it now, and it so resonates with the moment that we're in, but at the time, I think it was hard for people to totally appreciate the satire that it was." she said at the time.

Washington D.C's Awesome Con runs from Friday, March 8 through Sunday, March 10. Tickets for the convention are on sale now.
