This quote from Sean McVay sums up how well Matthew Stafford has played for the Rams

We’re just six games into Matthew Stafford’s tenure in Los Angeles, but by all indications, the Rams made a brilliant decision to acquire the quarterback from the Lions this offseason. He owns the best QBR in the league entering Week 7 and has already thrown 16 touchdown passes – the most ever by a quarterback in his first six games with a new team.

The Rams obviously had high expectations for Stafford when they gave up two first-round picks, a third-rounder and paid $24.7 million in dead money to dump Jared Goff, but he’s been even better than they hoped he would.

This one quote from Sean McVay sums up just how well Stafford played through six weeks.

“He has been better than I thought, and I thought he was going to be really good,” Sean McVay said Wednesday.

Having studied Stafford before the trade was made, McVay knew how talented he was. He saw a seamless fit for the quarterback in the Rams offense, which led McVay to push for this trade to happen.

Stafford is making everyone around him better, too, which you can see with Cooper Kupp and his historically great start to the year. Kupp has made some great plays for Stafford and the offensive line is playing the best it has since 2018, but Stafford is elevating his teammates, too.

“I’ve been really impressed with his body of work in his resume over the course of his career,” McVay said. “I think he’s doing a great job. I think the best players elevate those around them. I think guys are playing better around him, think he’s seen the field really well. I think he has great ownership and autonomy of what we’re really trying to get done. I think he’s able to really apply all that experience. He’s had a lot of great experiences, a lot of great coaches, a lot of great teammates that he’s played with in Detroit, so he’s able to take that, apply it in the right ways. He’s playing with 10 really good players around him on a regular basis. I think he’s doing an excellent job. I think Kevin O’Connell and Zac Robinson have done an outstanding job of providing clarity for him week in and week out in terms of what we’re looking for. Can’t say enough about the leadership that he’s displayed. I think the best make everybody around you better and that’s exactly what he’s done.”

There’s a long way to go this season and plenty of tough opponents still on the Rams’ schedule, but this certainly looks like a Super Bowl team with Stafford under center. Now it’s just about staying on track and continuing to play at a high level on offense.
