Quiver Distribution has acquired U.S. rights to “The Exchange,” a new comedy from the co-creator of “Borat” and “Bruno.”

Directed by Dan Mazer, an Oscar nominee for writing the “Borat” movies and the maker of “Dirty Grandpa,” the film follows a socially awkward but highly enterprising teenager who decides to acquire a “mail-order best friend.” While he hopes to find a sophisticated exchange student from France, he instead ends up importing his personal nightmare, a cologne-soaked, chain-smoking, sex-crazed guy, who quickly becomes a community hero. The movie stars Justin Hartley (“This Is Us”), Avan Jogia (“Zombieland: Double Tap”), Jennifer Irwin (“Bad Teacher”) and Ed Oxenbould (“Wildlife”). Emmy Award-winner Tim Long (“The Simpsons”) penned the script.

Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed.

“Dan, Tim and the entire cast have created a laugh-out-loud comedy that audiences will unquestionably go crazy for,” said Quiver Distribution Co-Presidents Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman.

The deal comes after Quiver Distribution released “Crisis,” starring Gary Oldman and Evangeline Lily, in February. The distributor also handled the rollout of “Paradise City” starring Andy Biersack, Bella Thorne and Cameron Boyce; Viggo Mortensen’s directorial debut “Falling,” which also starred Lance Henriksen and Laura Linney; and “Chick Fight” starring Malin Akerman, Alec Baldwin and Bella Thorne.

Who’s On First Films’ Dan Hine, Elevation Pictures’ Noah Segal and First Generation Films’ Christina Piovesan produced “The Exchange.” Larry Greenberg, the company’s acquisitions chief, negotiated the deal on behalf of Quiver Distribution. Executive producers are Tim Sealey, Ash Atalla, Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman.
