Quinta Brunson interrupts Jimmy Kimmel monologue and receives apology for Emmy controversy

Quinta Brunson interrupted the opening monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Wednesday, just days after winning an Emmy for her hit series Abbott Elementary.

“You know how when you win an Emmy you only have 45 seconds to do an acceptance speech which is like, nothing?” Brunson asked Kimmel. “And then sometimes you get even less time because some dumb comedy bit goes on too long?”

She was referring to her acceptance speech, which many viewers and fans believed was marred by Jimmy Kimmel laying on the ground as part of a comedy bit. Kimmel gave Brunson a chance to redo her speech and later, when she sat down for the interview, he offered a more sincere apology.

“They said I stole your moment,” Kimmel began. “And maybe I did, and I'm very sorry if I did do that. I'm sorry I did do that, actually. And the last thing I would ever want to do is upset you because I think so much of you.”

While Brunson graciously accepted his apology, she insisted that nothing could have detracted from the joy she felt at winning her first Emmy.

“Jimmy, let me just say thank you,” Brunson replied. “It is very kind of you to say that. I honestly was in such a moment of having a good time, like I won my first Emmy. I was up there, like, you know, happy.”

JIMMY KIMMEL: These dancers come out with spears, and are banging the spears around. And about halfway through the dance, the tip of one of the spears comes flying off the handle, straight at us, at our table.

KYLIE MAR: Jimmy Kimmel shared a marvelous story on his show Tuesday night, involving his Emmys table mates Andrew Garfield, and a rogue spearhead from the opening act.

JIMMY KIMMEL: And out of nowhere, and I swear to God, this happened, Andrew Garfield Lunges forward, and snatches it out of the air like spider-man.

[CROWD CLAPS AND CHEERS]

KYLIE MAR: Garfield knows a thing or two about being spider-man, as he has donned the suit multiple times on the big screen.

JIMMY KIMMEL: Like he might be really spider-man. Just as spider-man would have done were he in an undercover situation. His shirt came open, my wife almost had to be resuscitated.

[CROWD LAUGHS]

KYLIE MAR: Thanks to Garfield, no one was injured. And Kimmel got a cool souvenir.

JIMMY KIMMEL: I grabbed it off the table. And well, here I am with the superhero who saved our lives. So thank you. Thank you, Garfield. With great power, comes great reflexes.
