A Quiet Place 2 ending explained

The first movie ended with two aliens racing towards the Abbott house, but while we don't see Evelyn kill them, we see their corpses on the floor of the basement when Regan goes to pick up the radio before the Abbotts leave their home.

It's not long before they run into trouble though as Marcus gets his leg caught in a bear trap, attracting the aliens' attention. Emmett arrives just in time to save them and lets them take shelter in the bunker he's living in. It was one of his fires that Lee (John Krasinski) saw in the first movie.

We saw Emmett in the cold open with his family, but he tells Evelyn that his sons died on Day 1 of the apocalypse, with his wife dying 11 weeks ago as she was sick and whatever he tried to save her "wasn't enough".

The bunker is safe as there are 3 feet of concrete above them, but Emmett hasn't tried saving anyone as the people left aren't worth saving, he warns.

While in the bunker, Marcus and Regan discover a radio signal that's playing 'Under the Sea' on a loop, something that's been happening for the past four months, according to Emmett.

Regan believes she can use the signal to broadcast the feedback from her hearing aid and tracks the signal to an island. Going against her mother's wishes, she heads out alone during the night.

Evelyn persuades Emmett to go after Regan, while she stays behind to look after the injured Marcus and her baby. After a close shave with an alien on an abandoned train, Regan pleads with Emmett to go with her to the island. "You said you couldn't do enough... now you can," she tells him.

Emmett finds a boat and they make their way to the docks to travel to the island, coming across a group of survivors who want to steal their supplies. He starts to make noise to attract the aliens who kill the survivors, while Emmett and Regan dive underwater and swim to the boat.

Back at the bunker, Marcus goes on a rather pointless walk outside the bunker while Evelyn has gone to get supplies, including oxygen for the baby. Unsurprisingly, he attracts an alien and only survives because Evelyn returns in time, distracts the alien with an explosion and hides in the bunker with her family.

Regan and Emmett make their way to the island where they find a community and discover that it's a safe haven. It turns out that the aliens can't swim and in the early days of the apocalypse, the National Guard found out this fact and tried to get people to safety on the island. Only two boats made it though as the promise of survival caused a riot.

Unfortunately for the people on the island, an alien managed to reach the island on Regan and Emmett's boat and starts a violent rampage. Together with Man on Island (Djimon Hounsou's genuine credit), Regan and Emmett lure the alien away as they make their way to the radio station broadcasting the song.

Man on Island is attacked (and presumably killed) when they get there, but Regan manages to switch the audio to the feedback of her hearing aid just in time to save Emmett, and she kills the alien.

Luckily for the rest of her family, it came in time to save them too as their alien had made it into the bunker but is stopped by the feedback and Marcus shoots it.

The final shot of the movie is of the feedback playing out of the radio station's speaker, so it just remains to be seen how far the signal stretches – and whether any other survivors can use it to fight back against the aliens.

A Quiet Place Part II is out now in US cinemas and released in UK cinemas on June 3, with previews today (May 31).
