Millicent Simmonds 'Had To' Film 'A Quiet Place Part II' After Phone Call with John Krasinski

PLUS: Millicent shares what she loves most about working with Krasinski and wife Emily Blunt

John Krasinski has quietly been expanding plans for a Quiet Place cinematic universe.

Gears have been set in motion to have Mud and Midnight Special filmmaker Jeff Nichols write and direct a new movie set in the world of the 2018 sci-fi horror movie with a 2022 release in mind, EW has learned.

It's not clear at this stage whether the film is a formal sequel to A Quiet Place Part II or more of a spin-off, and plot details are being kept under wraps. We do know it's based on an idea by Krasinski, who directed and wrote the screenplays for the first two movies.

A Quiet Place, which Krasinski developed from a story idea by Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, imagined in a world overrun by vicious mutant beasts that hunt by their enhanced hearing, forcing everyone else to live in silence out of fear of attracting them. Krasinski and wife Emily Blunt starred as Lee and Evelyn Abbott, who struggle to protect their children (played by Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe) from these beasts, even as Evelyn goes into labor.

The sequel returns Blunt, Simmonds, and Jupe, while introducing actors Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou to the cast. Krasinski came back to direct and this time wrote the story and screenplay himself.

A Quiet Place Part II screened for select press ahead of the planned March 20, 2020, release date and received a largely positive response, but the film has since been postponed to April 23, 2021, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Krasinksi will also produce the next franchise installment with Sunday Night producing partner Allyson Seeger, who serves as executive producer. Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller will also produce.

Deadline was the first to report the news.
