‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ Trailer: Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn Stay Mute to Survive an Alien Invasion

The only way to stay alive is to stay quiet.

Prequel film “A Quiet Place: Part One” captures the alien invasion that led to the John Krasinski and Emily Blunt-fronted family drama franchise. Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o leads the feature as a New York resident who escapes an alien invasion, and finds safety with fellow survivors played by “Stranger Things” star Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, and Djimon Hounsou.

The Paramount Pictures movie was made in association with Michael Bay and is a Platinum Dunes / Sunday Night production. “Transformers” franchise helmer Bay produces, along with former “A Quiet Place” director/star John Krasinski, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller. The franchise installment is executive produced by Allyson Seeger and Vicki Dee Rock, and uses characters created by “65” directors Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, who penned the initial “A Quiet Place” screenplay.

For “A Quiet Place: Day One,” the story is by Krasinski and “Pig” director Michael Sarnoski, with Sarnoski writing the screenplay and directing.

The previous two “A Quiet Place” films were released in 2018 and 2021, respectively. Noah Jupe, Millicent Simmonds, and Cillian Murphy starred in addition to Krasinski and Blunt.

In addition to “A Quiet Place: Part One,” Nyong’o recently starred in ensemble action movie “355.” She parted ways with slated projects “Woman in the Lake” and “The Woman King.” Nyong’o instead opted t appear in a short documentary on the Agojie tribe called “Warrior Women With Lupita Nyong’o.” She later told The Hollywood Reporter that she bowed out of the fictionalized Viola Davis-led “The Woman King” in 2020 as it “wasn’t the role for me to play.”

“It was very amicable, the departure from it,” Nyong’o said at the time. Fellow Marvel actress Lashana Lynch presumably took over the role Nyong’o was slated to play.

“I’m desperate for small projects,” Nyong’o added. “They’re harder to get off the ground, they’re harder to stay on track. Bigger movies elbow them out of the way. The pandemic and the fiscal stress on the industry has made it even harder for those movies to get made.”
