Questlove has called out Kendrick Lamar and Drake for stooping down to “mudslinging” in their ongoing beef.

In an Instagram post with the caption, “Here We Are Now… Entertain us,” the Roots drummer slammed the rappers for digging up each other’s dirtiest secrets and making salacious allegations that dragged family members into their feud.

“Nobody won the war,” Questlove wrote. “This wasn’t about skill. This was a wrestling match level mudslinging and takedown by any means necessary — women & children (& actual facts) be damned.”

He continued by criticizing rap fans for feeding into the beef: “Same audience wanting blood will soon put up ‘rip’ posts like they weren’t part of the problem. Hip Hop is truly dead.”

Kendrick and Drake have both made serious accusations in their numerous diss tracks. On “Family Matters,” Drake made several unsubstantiated claims about Kendrick, including the suggestion that one of his children was actually fathered by longtime producer and business partner Dave Free. Drake also accused Kendrick of physically assaulting his fiancée, Whitney Alford.

In response, Kendrick alleged Drake is hiding a daughter on “Meet the Grahams” and alluded to longtime rumors that he has sexual relations with underage girls on “Not Like Us.”

Drake’s latest track, “The Heart Part 6,” saw him getting defensive by claiming he fed Kendrick’s camp false information about the daughter. In a blatant misreading of “Mother I Sober,” Drake also alleged Kendrick was molested as a child.

It’s worth noting that Questlove previously shared a laugh about Drake’s earlier diss, “Push Ups,” posting a Motown version of the song highlighting lyrics directed at producer Metro Boomin. At the same time, he made it clear that he wasn’t taking sides in the beef by writing, “For the record I’d rather see yall collabing but I’m out this game.”

Questlove isn’t the only hip-hop figure to point out the bigger picture. Over the weekend, Vince Staples called attention to issues in the music industry when asked whether there was a winner in the feud. “I think we deserve better than that because we’ve been saying for decades that we want people to respect Black music and Black art and Black people,” he said.

For now, Kendrick and Drake have gone quiet. Read Toronto rapper DijahSB’s guest column on why karma is catching up to Drake for “all the women he’s thrown under the bus.”
